Any pictures or info on where to mount a key ignition?

Finally going to the welders next week, and will probably get the to weld a sheet metal tab to hold my key ignition.

I've seen some mounted on the top motor mount, which is cool, but was thinking it would be easier to hide the wires if I mount it near the starter motor, like maybe on the seat post.

Any advice? I will be drilling a few holes for wiring, which I have been doing some research on here about it, Seat post seems a pretty good option.

What type of oil tank do you have. I mounted a tab on the fin of the tank. You can also just drill a hole in fin if big enough and and just mount the switch on the fin. I have done that in the past. I have my key switch on the right fin and start button on left. With this set up all my wiring and breakers are hiddien between the fins and rear fender.

due to the 6v 3 brush (32E) generator I'm running on my Magnum (1944) ,I have to use a standard ignition/light switch that would normaly be mounted in a tank mounted dash, as I'm using a sporty tank I had to make this on the lathe to hold a tank type switch and mounted it to the frame where the clutch cable mounts.....works well and don't look too bad....

It's pretty common to have the key switch on the motor mount.

Don't know what kind of space constraints you have. Welded a plate to the frame under the seat for the switch. Originally I had it on the motor mount but like not having the wires exposed better.

What top motor mount would I need if I were to use it for a key? Or could I just cut a hole in mine?

Or how about on the seat post, under the oil tank and above the trans. That might work, I just have to think of a way to make it look neat.

This one is perfect, but a little advanced for me I think.

That's a pretty good idea, I'll fit it up over the weekend while I get it ready for transport.

That's really nice, but like I said before probably a bit advanced for me.. Is that silver part a cap that can lift off? and I'm assuming thats a cylinder welded to the post with a hole drilled through the seat post for the wiring?

Ya just a cap, with a screw in the bottom to hold it on. Housing is tube milled to it downtube diameter and drilled to match cap screw. Ya, just drill a hole in the down tube, for wiring. We sell these if you interested.
