mike at MMW is a straight up guy , all my stuff fits perfect on the kit and parts i bought off him , he even sent me parts here to australia before i even payed for them , i cant fault the service or anything , possibly who ever built the frame fkd this one up for sure as we can all see . it doesnt take 3 months to get stuff here if mike has the frame in stock like mine was he air freighted an entire pallet , basically complete bike less engine and i had it here in aust in 4 days time once it left LA , was 1200 bux to air it over which is very very cheap considering the size and weight of the package

Are you sure the primary plate is flat, like lay it on a flat surface.

I have a straight edge, I'll check that.

Mike E-mailed me back, I'm going to send him photos, I agree, Mike is a great guy, he even answered questions for me before I got the bike, I was just making sure that he knew my supplier.

But I think I'll skip my supplier from now on and just deal with mike directly.

Mike just called, man what a great guy.

He went through the problem I'm having, he seems to think it's the trans or the inner primary, which it may be. I'm going to mess around with it a bit more later on today when it cools down, and if I still have no luck I'm going to go see a mechanic I know and see if I can borrow a primary from him, or at least get his opinion on it.

He even said if I have any other problems to E-mail or call, even if I didn't get the parts through him. So pretty happy with that.

I've been sick as a dog the last week, and every day has been around 40*C so I haven't been doing fuck all. But today it was hotter inside the house than it was out (and it was 41 today), so I fucked around again with the primary.

I kind of started at scratch again, made sure each bolt went in the hole freely alone, and lubed up all the threads. This is the order I bolted it up.

Engine and trans both loose.

Fitted the primary and hit it untill it sat flush on the engine, put the 4 bolts in (the bottom left was still abit tricky).

Put the 4 bolts in the trans side (all went in easy)

grabbed the engine and shaked it around abit so it would all seat in.

tightened the 2 front motor mount bolts

checked how free alll 8 primary bolts were, all were ok except that bottom left, which was a little tight, not as bad as before, I sat there screwing it in and out for awhile to try free up the thread.. but I still can't undo it with my fingers.

now the trans doesn't really seem to be lifting up as much as before? the 5 nuts on the studs all screw on ok, but the head of the stud isn't showing through the top of the nut, should this be ok?

The problem I have now is trying to get to the rear motor mount bolts, I did try to do the exact same procedure as above but with the 2 rear mount bolts tight and the primary wouldn't bolt on without binding.

Question: What other primarys will bolt up to my ultima engine/trans that I could maybe test?

How important is it that the motor sits flat on it's mounts, or is shimming ok for it too?

So,.....what are you left with now.

Is it that everything looks as though it will tighten up pretty decent except for those rear trans studs????

I would check to see if the trans sprocket lines up with the rear sprocket. if it is all lined up I would use shims. I know on my CFL everything seated perfectly with exception of the 5th mount which I used shims to tighten up the fit.

I have nuts on all 5 trans studs, but the studs don't poke through the opening of the nut, and that bottom left engine primary bolt.

This is all with the back of the motor loose by the way. I might just leave it as is (but bolt the rear of the motor down too (with shims), and if the primary cracks it cracks, I'll go buy a decent one if that's the case.

My rear wheel is still out getting the sproket and rotor machined, so whenever I get that back I'll check the chain.

Haven't worked on it since I last updated here, I've been sick and plus it's been really hot.

But today I'm going to get at it, I'm still without my rear wheel though, but I did buy a set of those telescopic measuring gauges DarinZ suggested.

As for the frame.. I e-mailed Mike at MMW, and he rang me soon after, very nice guy and keen to help, he suggested it's most likely a primary problem as he's had no problems like this with the frames.

But like I said a few posts up, it may just be the way I'm bolting it up, today I'm going to try a way that a local HD mechanic said and see how I go.

Today was still no improvement. I decided to record a video, so if you have a spare 5 minutes and want to have a look, here's the link:

Inner primary bolt on problem (ultima) - YouTube
This is with the back of the motor bolted down, 2 front bolts loose, all 5 trans nuts loose. As you can see the 4 motor bolts are all ****s to get in, and the bottom left still wont even start, I tried to show a view of the hole at the end of the video, but it was too dark, the hole looks to be lined up though, must just be of a fraction.

The second video is short, just to show how high the trans sits.

The gap between the trans and mounting plate looks level, looks like the frame is not twisted which I think is a good thing. Maybe shimming will be OK. Like you said, try a different inner primary cover. Stick with it anything can be fixed.
