The Custom Chrome Villains "are" not knock offs, they are licenced, manufactured tanks, made in either Mexico or Taiwan, for Jesse James. Just like all the fenders that were built, packaged and sold by Custom Chrome,......

Your thoughts on the tags on the inside of the fenders is wrong, too. The parts made at the shop, had tacked on tags that were shaped like the actual WCC cross logo, and were steel or brass. The Custom Chrome fenders had the brass square tag tacked on the inside, which had the logo stamped into it.

The last clue on where your fenders and tanks came from is,.... any shop built parts came in brown boxes with WCC and JJ logos and addresses printed all over them. The Custom Chrome parts came in white boxes, also with JJ logos,.......but no Long Beach addresses on them,.......but instead had "made in Mexico" or "Taiwan" on the box.

"Knock offs", to me are parts made to resemble WCC products, that were not made by WCC, or licenced by WCC or JJ.

Frank, also custom chrome and J&P cycle were licensed to sell "actual LBC shop made wcc parts"in 2008-2009. These parts were shipped in the cc white boxes or j&p boxes but were made in LBC by wcc and did not have any jj logos or LBC addresses on the packages...If memory serves me correctly they sold forward controls, floor boards, air cleaners, points covers.

Anybody Catch JJ add on Discovery last night to win a custom bike built by him? I can see a upcoming outlaw garage episode out of this.

Frank, what I said about the Iron Crosses vs the squares with stamp, is exactly the same thing you said. I didn't use the words 'tacked on', but that is what I meant, sorry I wasn't more clear.
In general, if it wasn't made in the LBC, I call it a knock off... that's just my opinion because i've seen (and held in my hands) the difference in quality of the the CCI parts and the real deal. I understand what you are saying about the CCI license deals, no argument here.
All my parts came in the brown boxes, I picked them up in person in Long Beach, but my sheet metal does not have the Iron Cross tacked on. I'll do some pictures asap. Also, my oil tank was jacked up... its with Greg Westbury as we speak getting fixed. I did order a CCI Steeler front fender this year, and yes it came in a white box. I'm actually really happy with it, its straight and solid (18 gauge?)... thicker than any HD factory tins.
And just to stir the pot... I was talking to an old coot in the basin this weekend about some parts for my Girder and we got off onto the WCC subject... according to him all the CFL frames (except for the shop built customs) were made at Daytec. He claims they just kept one jig going in the LBC just to keep the public happily unaware that frames were really being built off site. Anyway, he says he knows because he built the tooling.
Just passing along the gossip.... don't shoot!!!! Ouch, Ouch... those things hurt dammit!

Well,.....we agree to disagree on what a knock-off is,.....no biggie.

As far as CFL frames, (other than shop built CFLs), not being fabricated at the shop,......don't say that to loud. All the haters who love to rag on the fitment issues, and other problems with the frames will have to blame the almighty Daytec now.

I seriously doubt that story for a couple of reasons. First of all, if a big frame company like Daytec was building all those frames, there wouldn't have been the 6 month, 1 year, or 1 1/2 year wait on CFL frames that there was, after the big sale. Mass producing frames in a bike shop, is the reason for such a long turn around time.

Secondly,..I'm pretty sure, with the turn around of employees at WCC, and a number of disgruntled ones at that,.....the word would have gotten out about this a long time ago,......but,you wanna take the word of some "old coot" as gospel,...that's cool.

I have a WCC rear fender which came with my softail conversion kit from Heartland, back in 2005. It has a brass WCC Maltese Cross tagged on the inside. I am assuming that Heartland had WCC make them fenders for sometime. Has anyone ever heard of this?

In 2000, and 2001, I worked sales/tech for GIANTC Motorcycles, a mail order company that specialized in parts from the "smaller" (at the time) aftermarket manufacturers, like Doherty, Pan-Galactic, Wimmer Machine, Dewey's Customs, etc.

We sold a lot of those Heartland 180 tire conversion kits for Softails. You had a choice of rear fenders, a composite fender (don't know who made that one) or a steel one. The steel fenders were made by WCC. I know that, because I saw the fenders in the kits, and we were always backordered on kits because Heartland was always waiting on the fenders from WCC, then we'd get a bunch of kits all at one time when the fenders showed up from WCC.

So, if your kit was made in 2005 and was tagged WCC on the fender, WCC had been making fenders for Heartland for a long time. The WCC fender by itself from Heartland was like $349.00, and the composite one was around $149.00 if i remember.

Also, and a lot of people don't know this, way back around '99-'00 when Pure Steel in Arizona was going to manufacture El Diablos under license from Jesse, they were going to have Goodson Air Cleaners as part of the package.

Dennis Goodson told me that Jesse had called him, and wanted to know if he could manufacture 200 of his "S"-type air cleaners for the project. Dennis said he could, and Dennis sent Jesse a couple, and if you look at the prototype black El Diablo that Pure Steel had, it has a older style Goodson "S"-type air cleaner on it, with the front slots milled out, before Dennis changed his molds to just simulate the slots in the front. The whole deal for whatever reason never went much further than the ED prototypes between Pure Steel and WCC, and Dennis never shipped the air cleaner order.
