Well, once upon a time, I had a Sears Allstate 250cc that had a tank just like that one with the plastic panels, etc. The motorcycle also went by ALLSTATE, and PUCH, depends on who owned the company at the time. I sold everything but the engine (which was a cool looking little thing) and then sold the engine at the SMOKEOUT East this past June.

Allstate, thats my guess....or at least something Brit.

My best guess was a BSA but when I looked for images they only use an 8 pointed star and I never seen one example of a 5 pointed star and I am 99.9% sure the star badge came on the tank that way.....no other marking anywhere on the tank. This is very small capacity so I dont think whatever it came off of had a very big engine.

Yea Rick Yamaha also uses an eight pointed star but who the hell ever used a 5 point star? We must ahve somone on here that can iD this sucker?

I searched about 2 hours before I posted here. This is my last desperate act but I did find some pretty cool old bikes while I was searchin. If not Brit like Ryan suggested I would go Italian as a second guess but who knows, Honda and the jap bikes used to follow the styling of the Euro bike makers a lot back then

That tank is from a Honda Dream.

It might not be exactly the same as the '67 shown below, but the design of those tanks changed somewhat over the years.

Someone just changed out the Honda logo with that star . . .

It sure looks close. But there are a lot of old bikes from that era that it looks very close too. The reason I think the star belongs there is that it fits the indentation just perfect and has no visable mounting so it was done from the back. The old BMW's and BSA'a also had round inset badges. I will not say it isn't a Honda Dream but I have seen a lot of old Dreams (your pic is the first Bagger though) since I have had this tank and none are a match so far.

This one is much sexier the the 67. I don't know if it is younger or older but it is not the same.
