My SPS project is finally rolling! *pics*

I finally got the V-twin mfg replica springer I wanted and the 93" Shovel and trans too. I'm going to have to reorder the correct top clamp and some extra hardware for the fork, but no big deal.

Slowly but surely I'll get this thing figured out. The neck cups were a pain to install so I went to Ace hardware, bought a 12" threaded bar stock, some washers and nuts and made my own press for $17. Worked pretty well and they are both in there and flush. How the heck do I figure out what tranny plate to get? The transmission is the Baker 6 into 4 kicker. I think I'm going to go with a Tech Cycle primary kit for that Indian Larry type of look. This thing is going to be kick and electric start. Comments, suggestions?

Nick

Looking good!! Love the shovel motor!

On mine, I needed a 1/4" offset plate (I got a 1/2" and had to elongate the holes to move it back over) to line up my primary. With the rear wheel centered, I have a 1/4" offset sprocket to line up the final drive and the chain barely clears the 180 tire. I could have just moved my crank sprocket in to line up the primary and not need an offset plate for the tranny, but I would have had chain/tire clearance problems.

BTW...I have the Baker 6 in a 4 kicker.

ShovelArc,
Thanks for the support and info! With this being my first build, I'm going to have a ton of questions along the way. What did you do as far as hardware for bolting down the engine and trans to the frame? Are there special kits out there or do I go to the hardware store and find a certain grade of bolts/nuts?

I'm sure there are kits somewhere, but I just used grade 8 hardware from Bolt Depot.

Man that is looking sweet! Love that motor and front end - wow.
As far as bolts you should obviously use grade 8, but I personally had a problem finding them in zinc plating (or something other than yellow chromate or black oxide). So I bit the bullet and went chrome. They make kits or you can get them individually.
JoeyD mentioned that exhaust hangar bracket. I didn't know what I was going to do with it at the time so I left it, but now that I'm not using it with my drag pipes, I wish I would have cut it off...

Hey fellas, I'll answer questions below. I will try and get pics soon, but here is the current problem...I received my primary kit, belt drive, starter, etc from Tech Cycle and every component had damage to it. I paid a good penny for it so now I'm dealing with them and UPS for a claim so I get a whole new set up shipped to me. I did however set it up to make sure everything fit and took measurements. I guarantee it looks awesome. I went with a two inch belt for a more period correct look instead of a three inch. I should have taken a photo before boxing it all back up to show you all. I do have the charging system installed, so that's the latest. As far as that tab on the frame that has the wires around it, it's for a 5th bolt mount that's on my transmission case. When you bolt down the four bolts on the trans, you have a 5th one that adds extra security. I don't know if I'll use it yet since that bolt is removable and plus I'll have the inside primary motorplate that will secure the engine to trans fully anyhow and keep it all in line nice and true. As far as my grade 8 bolts, I went to gardner-westcott.com where they sell exclusively auto and motorcycle grade 8 hardware. I got grade 8 allan wrench socket head screws and thicker washers. And they are polished too! As far as handlebars, I have ape hangers, but I'm thinking I may go with drag bars, especially like the Choppers Inc Whiskey or Prison bars. I'm also going to change the tank to a more rounded peanut tank like a Paughco peanut tank. So I may sell the new regular sporty tank that Suckerpunch gave me for a good price if anyone is interested. I'll post photos as soon as the new primary comes in.

More pics

Well, I'm still waiting on my replacement primary kit. For the meantime, I did a temporary install of the transmission to see how she looks. This thing is going to be sweet. More photos to come once the primary is set up.

Your bike is going to look great. Nice looking springer front end. Is it kick only?

You may consider a Lillian Rose Choppers 1" extended tapered kicker arm and a brass knuckle kicker pedal!!!!

I`m jealous, but also pleased for you too. I love that style of bike, Springer, Shovel combination, its how an SPS should be done, you certainly chose well in my opinion. Good luck and I`ll be watching this...
