1t thing i would improve starting system having appropriately sized starter, cables for the size of the motor.
I run my 96cc s&s motor with no compression release, stock 310CCA softail harley size battery and any cable thicker than gauge 2. I believe i have 1.5vs 1.75 kw starter.
My 113 with 11:1 compression s&s came w/o compression releases 20+ years ago. It was killing starters at the time- so i machined heads to install the chain saw style manual compression releases. This day and age i might not have needed it- just would use bigger lithium battery and much sicker cables.
but it helped tremendously.
The 120 and 127 cc Ultimas came with manual compression releases preinstalled. for them I use 2kw starters, stock batteries and 2/0 size custom cables[ almost .5" thick
to even better improve compression release- i disassembled the valves and adjusted them to close later, at more pressure- which helps engine to gain more momentum during the cranking.
