Chain tensioner question.
Can a chain tensioner be run on the inside bottom of a chain pushing outward?

This is on a trike build. My chain is at a point where if I tighten the adjustment, it’s still loose and I don’t have enough to take a link out. With the chain tensioner pushing up, it causing the chain to run against the rear end housing so was wondering if the chain tensioner could be run pushing downward.

I HAVE SEEN THEM PLACED ANYWHERE- TOP BOTTOM, INSIDE OF THE LOOP, OUTSIDE OF THE LOOP.
I DON'T BELIEVE IT MATTERS THAT MUCH, EXCEPT PUSHING IT OUTSIDE OF THE LOOP PERHAPS WOULD BE TOO BULKY.
THE CHAIN SLACKS ON THE TOP OR BOTTOM DEPENDING ON ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION, SO PICKING UP A SLACK AT EITHER PLACE WITH A TENSIONET SEEMS OK.
ALSO IS IT SOLID VS SPRING LOADED TENSIONER- ALSO SAW BOTH, DEPENDING UPON THE APPLICATION.
I WOULD USE ROLLER THNOUGH, NOT THE SPROCKET, THE FUCKER IS NOISY.
JUST DO A GOOGLE SEARCH OF MOTORCYCLE-CHAIN-TENSIONER IMAGES AND IT WILL GIVE YOU A PRETTY GOOD IDEA.

under the chain pushing it up is the usual mounting
position of the tensioner is crucial , where it is in the chain run , to max the tensioning
things get complicated fast ,
make sure you do a suspension travel check as well as that will affect chain tension , i think setting the tension with rider weight on the trike would be proper too , just like a 2 wheeler
good luck!

I would do research online as suggested , not just opinions of a couple of assholes on this forum including myself.
The more data, images reviewed, the better the decision making. and at some point- just a leap of faith- just take chance.
I wouldn't be able to do do the crazy, but quite well working things with my bikes if I only relied on judgment of others, no matter how impressive their credentials are.
What do you have to loose? just tack it anywhere you want or it seems reasonable, see how it works.
If it doesn't - move to another place. afterwards you can touch up the frame- not biggie, not a sheet metal.
Good luck
