Question 05 AIH Legand...won't restart once hot?!???

Hi,
Getting a little frustrated with the bike situation. To make a long story short, once the bike is started and runs, if it is shut off once all warmed up, it will not restart until it is totally cooled down. Anyone have any idea as to where I should start to look or what may be the problem?

this problem has been happening for the last two months, we are on our 3rd mechanic now. we have had a new transmission put in and all new wiring. How do I correct the vapor lock problem. It sucks not being able to ride in the summer!!!

Well, I really hope you haven't had the tranny swapped for this problem...
Vapor lock can happen when the fuel heats up and boils turning it into vapor. Make sure your fuel line is not hitting either of the jugs. Also your ignition module could be breaking down. Have you checked for spark when this happens?

No we didn't replace the tranny cause of this problem....we've never noticed a spark. As you can tell we are not super bike savvy. just enjoy riding. Seem to think it might be the ignition module too, but will check for vapor lock too. thank you for all your help!!!

a good running cold motor that starts hard when hot could be an indication of worn rings also. how many miles on the motor?

Told you I was not bike savvy!! Ha ha

Spark plugs were checked out and were told they are good.

As for how many miles...about 9,000-10,000
Speedo doesn't like to work all the time.

Okay, no disrespect and don't take this the wrong way.....but, you need to take this to a shop as I am getting nowhere here. I'll give it one more go.....when I asked if you checked for spark..wait... "long sigh"....okay, when the bike is hot and won't start (stay with me here), you need to pull a plug (actually both) and see if you have spark when attempting to turn bike over (pushing the start button). Thats the 1st step of many more to come. You may be in way over your head...

Easier, and more foolproof than that would be to pull the plug wire off the plug, insert your little finger in the plug boot until your finger is touching the terminal inside, then turn the motor over with the ignition on.
It will be easier on the engine with the spark plugs out.
After you do this you will have a much better understanding of how the ignition works. You will definitely know if there is spark or not

How did you get the knowledge to know, or to do whatever you may do?
I'll bet it wasn't just by reading.

I had a 65 sporster years ago . I was having problems with the magneto getting intermittent spark. I went through 4 of my 5 kids sticking there finger in the spark plug boot before i found the problem. They still remember this years later.

So I will first start off by saying I am SHE not a he, and yeah maybe I am in over my head, but came on here to ask because i felt as though you are all more knowledgeable then the 3 people that have already looked at the bike. I live in a predominately Harley area and few People will look at an Iron Horse. I have one other custom bike builder left to try but there is a wait to get in for services.

I will try all of your advice, well except for sticking my finger where the spark plug goes, I may be dumb, but not that dumb!! I won't be back home until tomorrow night so I will try your much appreciated suggestions then!!!

I would not even begin to troubleshoot an AIH
until the interrupt wire to the ECM has been cut.
