79 XS750 Electrical Problem

I just inherited a 79 xs750 and have been slowly working to get it back on the road. So far I have pulled the carburetor cleaned the jets, bowls, floats..etc.. I have also just bought a new battery and found that only the running tail light turns on while the key is turned on. (no lights, signals, horn, gauges, brake lights, electric starter) I was curious to see if the horn even worked so I was going to direct line it to the battery. On the right hand side of the bike i connected the horn wire to the positive on the battery and it seemed like everything was working. horn honked.. electronic starter was turning, signals worked (right side stayed solid), brake light worked, no headlight, and gauges were working (oil light and signal light were on). I have no idea where the issue is or what I need to replace.. Can anyone help me find the issue or have heard of this happening?

The bike has been sitting since 1992 and the previous owner has passed.. so I wont be getting any answers there.

BTW, I am in Spokane WA and would love to get some on hands help as well with this restoration. (my first bike)
