Gear whine?

While at a bike night I noticed some bikes idling around had a high pitched gear whine.They sounded like a gear driven timing chain on a v8.What causes this?Is it a good or bad thing?

Open belt primary, dry clutch.

We're used to hearing it, buy yea, they be a little noisy....

More than likely its the primary...Karata's have that whine to them....You can hear some of the gear drive cams as well in some of the TC motors.
