Exclamation lean or rich

I hear a lot of motors running that are cammy and when rolling with no throttle down low in the rpm's have a loopy loopy sound to them do you think it is a lean fuel condtion or a rich fuel condtion. whats your thoughs....

I think it's the design of the cam profile. Duration and overlap.

that has nuttin to do with rich or lean as posted by above.. some people do set the idel speed down way low... but that is bad for oil pressure & flow.... try & maintain 850-1000 rpm...

Yep, 06 got it right on!

Idle your motor too low rpm's and it will shorten the life expectancy of the motor greatly.

It may sound great to you but you are paying the price.

thanks fellas i'm not talking potato potato here and low idles. my motor idles at 950 rpm it dont like any lower than that. i am talking a fuel condtion where the pilet jet is in my opinion is to lean, or there is a inlet manifold leak. i hear it all the time and wonder if other people here it also and know what it is that causes it, sure overlap in cam profiles will cause ruffness in idle and just above but this kind of thing should not happen at all when a motor has no air fuel happening due to throttle shut off. are you hearing me now

+1 on that. I keep mine @ 950-1000 RPM and I had a couple of Harley guys
pull up next to me and tell me my idle was too high. I said "thank you ladies"!

the old pans and shovels do idle a lot lower than these new motors but then again they only need 6 or 8 pounds of oil pressure and at idle its not uncommon to see them drop to 2 pounds or less.
At low idle a long duration cam will "breath" both on the intake and exhaust. Some long duration cams will even spit gas out the carb at idle. A big Lienweber will spit almost a soda cap of gas out the carb when you shut it down.

thats true Red you only have to look at a funny car to understand that. So what you are saying is that the duration of the cam profile and lift is whats causeing the loopy loopy type of sound from a over tuned motor.
