Problem: New Avon lasts 1 year???

Just disappointed. Installed my new 200 series Avon AM23 last July, 2011 and now it's shot! Did I install the wheel crooked? Is this a very soft tire? Was it low on pressure or something? It's worn in the middle but very worn on both sides of the middle, to the cords! 1 year!! No, I think burnouts put to much strain on everything.....and about 5000 miles...no speedo to verify tho....
WTF!?!

Thanks for the help/info....

no telling... but burnouts put soft tires through hell... my avon 300 only got 2700 miles out of it & no burnout.. also has alot to do with the surface you ride on & temp. keep the air pressure checked often for long tire life..

Looks like tire is chunking. I would guess from soft compound.
The softer the compuond, the better the tire hooks.

you must have cooked that tire for that rubber to separate like that. It was wearing fairly even though. Wide tires wear fast, just the nature of the game. You may get more out of a Metzler but you pay for it.

Seen where metzler has a new compound out, claims you'll get more mileage than a hd tire.

I had an Avon 180 once. It sucked. Metzler is 100x's better.

What was the air pressure kept at? Hardtail or softail?
