My nephew's Shovelhead has a banana caliper on the front that rattles when hes riding it. Is this normal for these?

yep they rattle like a bitch and you have to check the internal pin every once in awhile cause it'll hit the rotor which will cut it in half eventually, good stopping power though.

Thanx, RedWings, that's good to know!
Can the caliper be replaced with somethin else without going to a different frontend?

Yes. Many manufacturers BDL/GMA, Performance Machine, Jay Brake should have caliper kits for those bikes. All those calipers are is four bolts, 2 pads & pad pins, and a piston and seals. Chances are that some of that shit is "out of spec" but if it stops his bike decently, I'd live w/it & the normal rattle. TK

Thanx, guys, good to know! I'm looking at keeping him safe and making sure everything works right. If it wasn't a "normal" thing it'd be gone!
