Worn out shocks??
How long should stock Harley rear shocks last before they wear out? Is there a way to tell, or do you just replace them after a certain number of miles? Or do they wear out at all?? I ride a 94 Softail Custom and I've got the rear end apart to replace a snapped rear belt so I figured that if its time to replace 'em, now would be a good time.
Thanks
Logan

if they work ok don't change them.....I've known them to go south in under 1000 miles and I've knownn them to last 100,000 miles...........if ya change them go for Progresive Suspension
units...cost a bit but work well and last.

The bike has 97,000-plus miles on it, and sometimes when I get on, it sort of makes a "creaking" sound. Maybe I'm just getting fat.
I'm thinking I'll replace 'em.
It's only money....

At 97,000 miles I think you got your money's worth. Ditto on the Progressive shocks, or Works Performance makes a good shock for Softails.

+2 on Progressive. If the stock ones ain't leaking, then there's not much to deal w/ other than the spring life -- and springs only have so many compression/release cycles in them before they wear out. I replaced the stock shocks in my '92 about 14 years ago w/ Progressives (and did the fork springs at the same time), ride was considerably improved over the stock shocks/springs.
