Thanks for the input root but RW is right... I have always wanted (needed) a plasma cutter for such things as demo cars But in a way you gave me an idea to at least get the more complicated parts made at a machine shop, such as my brackets. I have them made out of cardboard and will post pictures tomorrow... How thick should those brackets be? 1/4"?

hey, I can't argue with getting more tools! I was just pointing out that if you are on a budget, which all of us are, it is temporarily cheaper to let someone else do some of the work. For instance, I don't have the room for a big press, so when I'm working on my cars, truck or bike, I'll take my races, pins and such to a machine shop and have it pressed in STRAIGHT for a few bucks. Would love to have a press, but the shop down the road has a lot more room than I do...

rooter- I am on a big time budget and live in a rural area. Closest shop that I know will cut some peices is about 40 min away. Might stop in some time next week and get a heads up.

Eric.... I am thinking about saving some dough and getting the Eastwood plasma cutter for around $500 and wondering if anyone here has tried this out. I need it to at least cut 3/8"

This is kinda how I want to mount the oil tank... Wondering the size grade 8 bolts I should use???? Also, does Meckwork or anyone out there willing to cut em cheap? or at least reasonable priced? Once I have them cut, will be TIG welding them to the tank and bolting them to the frame.

I believe it will hold just 3 quarts, that's with room at top for vent tube. I am going to be using an oil cooler to hopefully make up the difference. I also want to use a old ford model T sight glass, only problem is I need to know if it will hold to the temps.

Has anyone used a sight glass on their oil tanks such as one from a Ford Model T ????
Need to know if the glass can hold up to the temps.

Looked on a chopper parts site and they wanted over $100 for the same part as this Model T site that only wants $30 Model T Ford Crank Case Oil Sight Gauge - Quality All Brass Accessory - MAC's Antique Auto Parts
Now the only question is how much will the level go up and down in the tank as the bike is started or shut off. Sight glass will have to be high enough to prevent over flow on top of breather yet low enough to get a good reading. Little more research into this before I order.

I would think you have to mount the sight glass, plug all lines with something, and fill the tank with 3 quarts of something, like rubbing alcohol. This would allow you to adjust height of sight glass without oil, or gas. my 2 cents...

Thanks rooter! As far as the hole, (bung), to mount the sight glass, it will stay in the same mounting position. Just will have to get a sleeve or spacer to possibly raise it up if I have too. I am think I will want to make sure the vent on top of the sight is high enough that the vibration wont cause oil from coming out of the vent at the top. The more I though about this today, the more I think it will look kick ass on the bike. And if I happen to not like it, plug it....
