Buell project!

Hello all, i am new to this site and jist began my first build. I am using a war eagle wrath frame softail. I am looking into getting a 1993 Buell XB9 engine but I am trying to figure out how the mounting would be. So i want to ask you guys what or how is the best way to mount a Buell XB engine to my frame?

Maybe you have a type o there but the XB didnt start untill 2003. The engine post for softails is moved up in the frame more than buell and sportsters. It will be a tough mod. Anything can be done though. Depends on how crafty you are

You are right sorry it is a 2003. Well i wanted to reweld the engine posts on the bottom. I just cant fine a image of the XB motor mounts, like a front view and rear with close ups. What sucks though is the frame is designed for a EVO engine to.

I have an xb motor sitting on my garage bench I will take pics in the am and post em up. Youll have to do a lot of cutting and welding for that motor to mount in the frame.

Is it a regular Softail frame or is it a Softail that is set up for a Sportster engine? The XB mounts are different than a normal EVO Sporty engine....

The frame is a war eagle wrath, its mounts are for a normal S&S evo engine. I am actuall chopping off the existing mounts and rewelding them. Guys at RedNeck Engineering were helpful in providing me with CAD drawings of all the brackets they use to mount the XB motor for their mutant frame which is similar to mine.

Thanks for the pictures thats perfect. I would have know the mount points but i am picking up my Xb engine tomm for $700 not bad. So this really helps me visually understand the brackets I need. I will get all the brackets CNC machined so that will help with alot since all parts will be precision cut.

Rcchopper: on your XB engine where is your oil filter? And where did you get the pushrods from, sportster?

On the right of the motor just below that gauge is the oil filter location. I ordered the pushrod conversion kit from zippers cycle part number 417-115 xl/xb pushrod cover conversion kit...

here is the link
Product List

Will you send me a copy of those cad drawings as well if you don't mind. Or did you have to pay for them?

What kind of gauge is that? What is the range of it? I'd like to put one on mine. Right now it's just plugged. Any idea what normal running pressure on that motor is?

[QUOTE=magnum45pete;

Thanks for posting the picutes up. That does help actually. I am deciding on couple of different mounting ideas. Like i said redneck choppers were kind enough to send me cad drawings of their mounths which will work for my setup. You have a mount on the upper from two holes, and I dont know if i will use those. I am looking at only using the bottom from, rear plate and the top middle. That should be enough id hope.

I just got my motor today and I was curious if you guys know if the stator assembly from a sportster will fit in the xb. On mine the stator rotor has magnetic plates on the outter rim of the rottor and the stator sits in the middle, but on sportsters they dont have the outter magnetic plates from what I have seen in picutres, can anyone confirm this???

Depends. In 2005, buell really started to break away from using sportster parts, so prior to 05, maybe. After, no.
