Im turbo-curious

Well now that I have the bike nearly completed im looking towards next winters mods, so im looking at parts (high comp pistons, intakes, head work) and then I go to my buddies garage to help him with the turbo on his rat rod and it hits me.... why the hell would i drop at minimum 3 grand into my internals to get 125 horse at best when i can build/ piece together a turbo setup for what i figure to be about 5-700 and get 150 horse and about 170 torque? Since my buddy has his all but running for about 600 with all new parts. Now that being said I know about jack shit about turbos and turbo sytems, I have a basic understanding on how they work and all that jazz and I have my buddy who is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to motors but im still at a loss on what EXACTLY I need like how to size this deal up and all that jazz, what do you guys know about em? any pointers on sizing/ tuning basically anything? I just wanna learn for now and then I want to act on what i've learned, what can you tell me boys?

here is an aerocharger kit done for Victorys, way wicked but they're 5k, little out of a college students price range...

one or two guys on here have had turbo bikes. One had one on a shovel.

From what I was searching (Cause I wanted to turbo the blast. hehe)

The wastegate is important, theres a mixture big waste gate, little turbo big power, (I think) a few things have been searching I will look for a few emails I have gotten.

well i guess thats half the problem is that im doing it on a vic, i know that the smaller it is the faster the turbo will have available power, ive calculated my bike to be about 1.6L so im looking at garret and turbotechnics setups for civics right now, lots of info out there no doubt

First, I'm not a turbo pro but what I understand is that there's a low rpm and a high rpm turbo and neither 1 will work well when they're not in their rpm range. 1 prob with a HD is that they don't rev very high. 6K or so is high for an HD while a jap bike is just getting warmed up at 6K so the turbo's really get to crank.

PM John at scooters, he runs a turbo set up on his pro mod and I'm sure he has a really good knowledge about turbo systems. I have always wanted to run twin turbos on my race car but I don't know shit about them, all I know is that they are crushing us guys that run nitrous, but from what I have heard that they can do more harm than good if they are not tuned correctly

If you can set up a used turbo for under 3K you're doing super.

i realize what everyone is thinking but the only real cost is the turbo and since ven my last post i have decided im going to go with name brand turbo, no ebay junk garrets are running 700 new seems good to me, intercooler is 180 on the high side, flanges and such all cut on my buddies laser as well as my air box to intercooler connection, and aluminum pipe tig welded, already have the dynojet commander and the bike is efi, 200 fo dyno dune so id say for at the most with some pretty solid name brand parts 1500 i also realize that their are a lot of people out there who think these are super touchy and difficult but if you wastegate low and build on it at your tune there is no way you can realistically lose power, and besides even if it doesnt add 1 horse, you still got a fuckin turbo, thats gotta mean somethin haha
