'07 HD softail speedo question for ya'll.

My dad has an '07 softail custom deluxe and the speedo is always fogging up on him when it's warm and the sun beats down on it for a while. It bugs the shit out of him so I told him I would post a question here and see if there is anything that can be done to fix it. I was thinking that there had to be an after market replacement for it that kept the OE look but wouldn't fog up. I can't believe that HD would sell bikes with an issue like this and I'm sure it's not just his bike or even just the custom deluxes. thanks for any advice.

Usually the HD gauges are pretty good as far as leaking.

But it won't fog up if it doesn't have moisture in there. So take it out, and dry out the insides as best you can with a blower or hair dryer (low)

Then Tape it up with plastic tape when you wash the bike

There are lots of aftermarket speedos available to replace it - I like the AutoMeters and VDOs

Thnks Merlin, I didn't realise that it could be taken apart. We'll give that a try.

I have one of those HD color changing, combo speedo/tachs sitting on the shelf right now. It is specifically for the 07 Softail but it came already programmed with miles on it. I was in a hurry for my Vegas trip and bought one the dealer had on the shelf.

I have since then ordered one with the correct miles on it to replace it. So I actually have two now. One stock (speedo only) and the extra color changing one.

If you end up wanting to replace the one you have send me a PM. I'll save you $100 off the dealer price for either one.
