Forward Cntrl Spacer
All,
Tried to install our BDL forward ctrls last night and ran into a problem on the shifter side. The shifter arm is hitting the motor plate so I was thinking about trying a .50" spacer that moves the whole forward cntrl out to the left.
Has anybody tried this? I'm concerned that the shift linkage will be at a skewed angle and not work freely. The other option would be to have a machine shop millout some cleareance. Any thoughts...
Thanks,
Lou

The PM Phatail kits come with a similar spacer the linkage usually tolerates the angle but you can reduce the angle by using a couple spacers on the linkage. I usually figure half the offset and use twp spacers. One spacer on the inside of the forward controls link mount and the outside of the tranny end mount. It does depend on the primary as far as spacing for the spacer on the tranny end but the PM kits move the primary out so there is plenty of room.

You can re-time the shift lever and use a longer linkage usually. Sometimes using heim joints with male ends can straighten out the angular issue your seeing.

I just picked up a sick linkage from Famous Fabricator. I am replacing linkage that has an offset with one that does not. For the engineers/mechanics here, is there a limit to how far out you can space before the lever action (my term) or angular pull at the ends is too much? Overestimating, I have 2.5 inches to close, 1.25 in at the foward and out 1.25 at the trans if I split the differnce evenly.

Happy with how it looks and feels good. Glad it's something I can keep an eye on very easily for any sign of play or failure.
