Ultima 127C.I. motor

I am putting a Ultima 127 in my CFL build. When I red the owners manual it said that you have to run a oil cooler for the motor. I couldn't find a oil cooler that I liked so I decided to run a second oil tank that I made out of Aluminum that fits under the tranny mount. The theory is now I have 5 quarts of oil in the bike so the oil stays out of the motor longer (more time to cool) in turn it should stay cooler. I will be running the out on the motor to the in on the top oil bag. then the out on the top oil bag will go the in on the lower oil bag then the out on the lower oil bag goes to the in on the motor.

Finally the questions
1.) will the oil pump be able to suck oil out of the lower bag and into the motor without starving the motor of oil ???? (Seams like a dumb question but just want to make sure).

2.)Do I even really need this extra oil bag set up I live in California I may ride to Arizona it the 100 degree heat some.

3.) anyone have any experience with the 2 oil bag set up?

4.) How much did it cool the oil temp?

Any thoughts would be helpful .....

Thanks
Bob-O

A couple of things from me for my .02.

If you put the oil bag under the tranny mounts , you better hope like hell you don't bottom out..

I would consider an oil cooler.. There are some cool (Pun intended) ones out there. Did you try the Perf-Form cooler.. What I have and looks alot cooler than an oil filter?

this bike has two oil tanks. but it also has a perform oil cooler filter canister up front. merch also makes one that installs in the oil filter location. its most likely better than the perform.

need to use a larger than 3/8 line to drain from top to bottom if possible. and drill out any fittings as large as you can. you dont want the motor sucking oil faster than its draining down to the bottom tank. thick motor oil at start up in cooler weather may not wanna drain effectively thru a 3/8 hose.

personally i think nevada/cali/arizona temps are hard on motors in july. if you can live with a cooler too i would. that motor is gonna run hot.

Never tested it but an oil cooler is designed to disapate the heat. Oil sitting in tanks with more oil might take a little longer to heat up but will be harder to cool..more oil to cool after it heats up. If you made the 2nd tank finned it might help, but under the trans, above the hot pavement would cause me some concern.
Check out my gallery..I have a picture of the oil cooler I found and you don't even notice it.

Not to jack the thread but damn Gypsy, this is the first time I noticed that bike was a softtail. Does it work or is it locked up?

I run a 127 Ultima and have a front mounted oil tank that holds over 4 quarts, plus an oil cooler. The pump works great on mine and its mounted lower than the engine. The bike was running really hot at first but that's because I added a velocity stack and didn't have the bike set up right. Once I corrected that, the bike never ran hot again, and that was during break in. The hottest it gets now is about 200 and usually runs well below that. I would highly suggest an oil cooler.

If you look in my gallery, you'll see my setup. The oil cooler is mounted on the left downtube.

THANKS for the help everyone.....

I like the Pef form oil cooler

I think I will run the 2nd oil tank and the Per form to answer the question about the oil tank it sits just inside the bottom of the rail so if I bottom out the frame rail will hit first.

Thanks again
