Would this work for a gusset?

I want to use 4 links of 5/16" chain as a gusset. The plan is to cut the existing tubing so that one half inch of chain link on either end is sandwiched by the tubing. It would be sandwiched horizontaly on one end and vertically on the other. Of course the links would be tig welded into one straight solid piece. Then I would seal up the ends of the tubing with tig rod. The question is would this be strong enough? I have no idea what stresses a gusset has to withstand. Hopefully I would be putting back at least as much strength as I would be taking out (2 x 5/16" solid steel in each link) but I'm sure there are others much better qualified around here than me to determine that. Would this be safe?

Man ive seen alot of the indian larry types building whole front ends and frames with welded chain. My guess it should work if its welded good. And each link is welded good. and in the end fuck it ! if something cracks reweld it, It looks cool.
