Question Regulator, Solenoid, Relay???

Can someone help with a simple definition of these?
I didn’t ground something right…
The bike started, I went in to lock up and when I came back the S>O.B. was smoking from under the seat.
One of the wires was hot and touching the oil bag…oops!
I cut the power but as long as the battery is hooked up that thing was…well not good.
I traced it back to this black box and the wire is so bad it looks like I need to replace to whole part but don’t know what the fuck it is!

I’m thinking it is one of these. Any ideas?

well.....

from what i can tell, it looks like your starter relay and a breaker mounted on a circuit board.
what brand of bike is it?

are there any bare wires that might have grounded out? what do the burnt wires go to?
the black box(relay) or the gold colored thing(breaker)?

CCI = HardcoreII
one of the wires grounded out on the oil bag and is compleatly burnt (well some is still attached to the frame.) it went from directly into the circuit board along with all the other wires exceot for thr one wire that went to the ignition button mounted on the starter. That one seems fine. others went to the gold box but i unhooked them and they are good. What do I do?????

I think so...all I did was replace the frikin ignition switch (the key that turns the power on. On my set up I would tuen the power on then reach down and hit the button on the starter and pow...off and running. I switched out the Ignition/key switch and left a wire unattached by mistake and all hell broke! the wire that grounded out on the oil bag is the one that goes to this black+gold box. The only one I could find like it in the CC catalog is $350.00 and has all the bullshit for turn signals etc. I don't run any switches on my hand controlls and just need a cheep quick fix if I can figure this thing out! why is this such a pain in my ass???
