Would like some schooling on a bare open primary
Hello,
I would like some how to info on doing a bare (plain) open primary setup on a evo without all the extras ( no fanacy covers )? I want the chopped look, that gets the job done. I have looked around for this information with no luck? There has to be a better way than buying a $2000 dollar setup. So what is the old school way? Any where to purchase these components?

well, the hard core old school way was a few pulleys and a belt from a small block supercharger. that was the first belt drives. realistically i wouldn't recommend that on an evo. pretty sure primo and bdl still make plain jane 3 inch belts, the evo part is the problem because of the spline cuts in the pullys and the electric start. thats why those are always more expensive than 4 speed belts.
look for one that re-uses your stock clutch components, that will save a bunch.

This 3" Open Primary Belt Drive is equal in quality to a BDL, but features a diaphram spring clutch and is considerably less expensive.

I am leaning towards using a Primo belt drive although they are more $ than a BDL ... seems like everyone has some kind of trouble or another with BDL's.
Exile offers a motor brace plate and a tech cycle starter adapter that they use on their bikes but by the time you buy the motor brace plate $199 ($249 with oil filter), Exile starter kit $799 and then add the "kickstart only" belt drive for another $799 ... This may look clean but you're spending $2k on a primary... more than a primo kit.
You want the bare "chopped look" sounds like you are wanting the look of a kick only belt drive. Are you running kick only or elect start only or a kick/elect combo?
What motor and trans do you have?
This thread from last year has some good info in it too... http://www.clubchopper.com/t28705.html

What about Ultima's Street Style belt drive. It's under $600 for the cast plate version.

Jireh lists all the Ultima drives in the drag and street series so I would assume they have them. For the money and remembering I am on a budget, I will be getting the Street Series. It has that older look I am going for, just pullies and belts. They say it will handle anything you can throw at it...so keeping my fingers crossed that my EB 127 will run good.....we will see.
