would a backfire cause a voltage spike somehow?
after gassing up on my ride home last night, i went to start the bike and heard a loud pop, almost like a backfire. my initial thought was a backfine, i thought the sound come from the area of the starter, and maybe the bendix snapped off on the ring gear or something. then i tried to restart and i just got the dreaded "click". i thought i was doomed cause of the loud pop, but luckily, the solenoid plunger button i put on last week saved my ass, and the bike fired right up. when i got home, i was anxious to check everyhing out, and I tried the start button again, and it fired right up!
anyone ever have that happen? now im thinking that something tripped the self-restting breaker since it started fine when i got home after it was shutoff for a few minutes.

i have had other customers have this problem
there is a lot of motor to turn over so make sure that your
ground is secure to your starter if not you will pop the reset breaker
and that is what you probably experienced
hope you have good day ride safe......

ahh. yeah, its funny i was just talking to gypsy about the starter ground yesterday too. i dont have a ground running to the starter itself, cause i figured it was grounded thru the trans body via the frame, so i plan on doing that right away. funny that this is the first time i expirenced that tho, but i only have 1200 miles on the thing.
so what woulda made such a loud pop?

so whats the best gauge wire to use for the ground from one of the starter bolts, and can i just connect it to the frame at the same place im running the main ground from the battery to the frame?

12 gauge is good and yes to connecting to the frame either new or same location.

think its better for your main ground....the battery cable....to go straight to the starter mount bolt, and run the 12 guage to the frame
