Insurance for Special Construction in NC
I just registered my project and got plates today.
I called my insurance agent with Nationwide and they told me they could only do liability, no comprehensive or collision. That pisses me off because when I transferred my homeowners and other vehicle policies there almost 3 years ago I specifically asked them about a special construction motorcycle. They told me it would be no problem as long as the DMV issued a title for it they would treat it like any other vehicle.
I called Progrressive today and in NC they also will only do liability.
I don't care much about collision but I do want comprehensive insurance to protect my investment from theft, etc.
Has anyone had any luck with this coverage in NC?

Progressive wouldn't insure mine at all. I did alot of calling and found FORMOST. They had the best rate. If you have a good record, you should get a good rate.

Thanks Chainz, I'll give them a call. State farm said they could only do liability unless I added my autos to the policy. If that's what it takes, no problem. You gotta have coverage if you've got $$$ in a bike. I had one stolen in Florida while State Farm was my coverage and they did me good. I have had really crummy service from their agents in Fayetteville though. That's what prompted me to switch to Nationwide a few years ago.

I'm with Insurance Solutions as well. They gave me a great rate. They go through Foremost.

I called Insurance Solutions and they quoted me a decent rate. I'm doing a little more research before I make my switch from Nationwide. I always look closely at the policy to see how a person is compensated for a stolen bike. I'm sure Nationwide could care less about adding another bike to my policy but they won't like me pulling all my other coverage I have with them.
It gives me pleasure to stop doing business with companies that aren't bike friendly. In the early 90s I tried to get a bike quote from Allstate and here in NC they didn't want anything to do with it. Since there's so much money in bikes now I see Allstate's ads in lots of magazines. Too little too late. They are on my list of companies that can pound sand!
Thanks for the replies you guys. Have a good Christmas holiday.

I ended up going with Foremost insurance through Insurance Solutions. Their quote for my special construction wasn't bad but the quote they gave me for all three bikes was pretty good. I guess getting a multiple vehicle discount brought the rates down better. Insurance Solutions was the best I could find around here and Stephanie, the girl I always talked to was quite pleasant.

Back in the early and mid 70's I was living in San Francisco. Tried to insure my Shovel and was told flat out that it couldn't be insured because the recovery rate was almost 0. Had a girlfriend who was a semi-bigshot with an insurance company and she said she could take care of it. Nope, she couldn't do it either. They would do new bikes because of pressure from the banks (a new harley was over $3,000 so banks needed the security on their loans) but that was it.
