3 inch BDL shift issues

Greetings! So years ago I installed a 3" BDL open kit on my 74 shovel. The bike shifted great and was able to go in neutral at a stop which it wouldn't do with the OE primary. Plus it looked kool. Well I recently put the same kit on my 05 springer classic. It's way noisier than the shovel , down shifts hard engagement and forget getting neutral at a stop or rolling to a stop. I'm a master auto tech so I know how to work on bikes. Pulley alignment is spot on. BDL said to clean the clutch plates where they engage the basket dogs with a round file as they may be stamped a bit tight which did not help. Upshifts feel smooth and normal but downshifts are horrible. I'm almost ready to put the stock primary back on. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It does sound like a clutch issue. Are you running all of the shoulder bolts and springs?
