Super G acting up

replaced a revtec carb on a 100" motor with a super g. revtec ran fine but I could never get it to idle or start without hand choking it. The G starts right up with no choke and 1 throttle twist but is backfiring thru the carb like it needs more gas at all rpm's. gas flow from tank is good, new hi test gas, intake is tight, internals look clean, no blockage, blue o-ring is in place. has 29.5 intermediate, I cant believe thats not big enough for a 100" motor. The other weird thing is if I open the choke the motor goes to full throttle.

When I get an engine that is doing weird stuff like that, i like to experiment with
layers of different porous cloth across the intake, to see what makes it happy if any..It sounds really lean to begin with, especially if it likes the enrichener ... air cleaner?....

I think you'll need a .031 intermediate on that motor.

i was also thinking that, recalled reading somewhere that 29.5 was made specifically for 96".
Sounds like- lean all around- intermediate and main..

ok I'm gonna try an .031. I put an old revtec on and it ran fine so I know its in the fuel system. I'm thinking I should get off some cash and get a 3/8 fuel valve also? It ran a tad better without an inline filter but I figured the filter was dirty

Hey Red, I used a super G on my 100" S&S engine. I have 4 main and 2 inter jets I can send you if your interested. I have no uses for em.
I have a 28 and 32 inter and 72,66, 76 and 70 main. Free of charge if you want em
FWIW, I used a 29.5 and 69 with my super G on a 100" S&S.

Either jet is fine if you adjust the mixture, rule out an intake leak. It's on the cusp of a 31, but it's really about the adjustment,which depending on where it falls...will tell you to go bigger or smaller.
What you describe is a leaking intake. S&s uses diff gaskets, in case you didn't get the carb complete.
