77 IH worth keeping?

So I convinced my neighbor he didn't have the money to put into it, now I'm almost thinking I don't WANT to put the money into it. A local welding pro told me today that he could fix this for $60 and he guarantees his work or money back and money for new parts.

Opinions: scrap or keep?

Grind marks up top, something cut off?

Broken bolt housing. Part of the $60 fix

just an overall shot

Major break here on the bottom of the case which is the rest of the 60$ and you can see a previous repair

If it was a rare or highly sought after motor, maybe

But it's not

Well, it was free, and odds are any motor I get I'm going to rebuild anyway. Just wondering if its worth the 60$ to fix and the odds and ends to put back together.

IMHO, no

You're talking about an intact, running, rideable IH bike that's worth maybe $2,000

A lot Less than that with a cobbled together multitude of cases repairs

"Money Back Guarantees" don't mean much when you're stuck alongside the road in the middle of nowhere

Alright, thanks. I'll probably keep it anyway cause I've got nothing else and I'm sick of the 4 cyl jap motors that ive had and seem to be the only thing in my price range on the local CL and ebay.

Hey no problem. I came here asking for opinions and the stone cold truth is what I wanted, anything else would be a letdown. After I posted this I realized that it will prolly be a 5 year project but at least this way I'll know 100% all the problems and flaws and every single inch of this motor
