I posted a thread about Yaffe vs. BBC & Jay answered with honest opinions. Over the course of some phone calls, I discovered a shop that had vision, balls, style, and willing work with my idea of what a custom chopper should be.

However, it is still just talk. for now.

Since Phantom doesn't have the high profile of a Yaffe or the production numbers of a BBC, it's hard to do research on the quality of the shop and their work. Not a knock on them at all. When I'm considering droppin' 30+ large ones, I want as much info as I can get. Since he's in Alaska & I'm in PA, can't just drop by for a visit.

Any of you that have done business with Jay, own or have owned one of his bikes, how about a little feedback on your experience, the quality of the bike, working with the shop, etc.

If you don't want to post public, PM me or drop me an email.

Thanks.
Has it been long enough ?
Well, inquiring minds want to know which route you decided to take ?

Recent family medical issues have put this purchase on the back burner & on hold until winter. Sorry for not following up with what I started.

However, I seriously doubt I will go the chopper route for these reasons:

1.) Distance between myself and any of the builders or their dealers. Let's face it - all vehicles break sometime. Without direct access, it definitely looks like I would have to jump thru some hoops to get service, even under warranty.

2.) Market glut and depreciation - there is a shitload of choppers for sale. Even the big name builders' bikes are taking a beating. I can't see spendin' $30 - $40k and have it be worth $15k a couple years later with only a few thousand miles on the bike. Could I buy used and get a good deal? Probably, but I seldom buy any vehicle used. I got enough problems and I don't need to buy someone else's.

I thought about building it, I have the space and most of the skills, but with what limited time I can spare, the build would be a multi year project. I'd rather ride than wrench.

Chances are good I will buy a Road King & customize it... thanks to all for their $.02.

a stock road king??? you're kidding. man, now that's being a hard core chopper guy isn't it? by the way, if you buy a decent custom you can get service anywhere in the world, warranty or not. now be careful and don't get too outlaw with that road king.
