need advice on American Suspension
having some trouble and need advice...
bike built in oct 05
fork seals leak oct 05
rebuild of forks dec 05
forks still leak and now with rebuild scuffed up and lower tree chrome popping off
spoke to A.S. and bike builder they both said we will replace forks
finally got bike back to builder
when he was not busy aug 06
now both builder and A.S. saying that is not our policy and bike is still apart will not make the Key West poker run, and maybe not the Biketoberfest

I am surprised they agreed to replace the forks from the beginning to be honest. I am not a part of American Suspension and have no control over them. I can say that it is not AS's responsibility to deal with popping chrome because the seals needed to be replaced. If the builder scuffed the forks while taking them on and off, he should assist with a re-chrome.
Who is the builder that you are working with?

I use a ton of the front ends and have only had a couple leak. If you are going to have one that is going to be sitting for a long time, store it upright (the position it will be in once it is installed) and actuate the forks from time to time.

maybe
well i guess i will see what happens, maybe it was someone other than TED I talked to in 05.
I called ted on friday and he got pissed off at me and hung up on me, saying that is not the way we do business, these front ends are to expensive to just replace.
Even if they are not fixed after sending them in twice?
the bummer is it is looking like the builder is not supporting me either

Thanks for the advice Phantom. I've had the forks in their box on the garage floor since I broke the bike back down. I guess I'll use em as pogo sticks and then prop them against the wall until I'm ready to install them again!

Sounds like it's time to move on, do your homework, there's some well made front ends out there, ask around, do a search...
Best of luck!

chrome, aluminum, and hydraulic fluid don't mix well but to be honest, chroming issues is an industry wide spread problem. Some people like to blame a specific manufacturer but it doesn't matter if you do front ends, wheels, forward controls or whatever, the chrome process is typically out sourced and alot of factors play into how long the chrome lasts.
