chrome exhaust - paint black ?

can you spay paint chrome exhaust with engine paint without having to sand ? (just clean and tape) -- i have some pipes with a few scrathes on them and wanted to do a two tone by taping off the nice section and painting the half where the scratches exist -- thanks

You'll have to scuff the chrome for the paint to stick, I'd think. I had planned on painting the pipes on my bike so I used Scotchbrite to scuff them to the mount bracket, but since they didn't re-blue fast I've left them alone.

you'll regret it. it's pretty unlikely whatever paint you get will be very durable in that application, in my opinion. you could ceramic coat black, but that's a different price range.
