I put Rip Rose in there first because the years and miles he put in coming to our parties and reporting on the goings on......
He swung by the shop about 6 mos before he passed.

Dave had a helluva life and family...

Can we include in this memorial Marla Garber? She was the managing editor of Super Cycle when a car broadsided her in Lagonia Hills, CA some years ago. She had written "Partying with Marla and Scooter" (her dog) for a long time too. She was a good friend. Scooter survived the crash.

RIP Marla and Scooter....I enjoyed her stories.

1. TRIBUTE TO MARLA GARBER (Senate - July 26, 1995)

[Page: S10729] GPO's PDF
Mr. CAMPBELL. Mr. President, I rise today to share with you the story of Marla Garber, a free spirit who rode the length and breadth of the United States on her motorcycle accompanied only by her dog Skooter.

She was a remarkable young woman; one of those `rugged individualists,' constantly seeking adventure in her life and traveling into the depths of the country in her pursuit of it. She shared the stories of the fascinating people she met on her journey's and the memories of the places she had seen with much of the American public, writing for several motorcycle magazines. In this way, she was able to leave her mark on society and the people of the country.

Marla Garber was a woman of vision and strength, a pioneer in her time. A friend of hers described her as one of those who `followed their callings to and beyond the ends of the known world and came back overflowing with stories of strange places * * * and wondrous things they'd seen.' Marla Garber was unique for this day and age, and I admire her spirit.

We all suffer from her loss, as surely as we all benefitted from having her among us.

2. Marla Garber, died 29 June 1995 in Connecticut USA...managing editor of SuperCycle magazine.
Marla, you touched people's lives you didn't even know and you are missed.
Remembered by Jason Pence "Da Bugg" and a whole lot of friends.

3. Marla and Skooter
February 18, 1958 - June 29, 1995

Marla was the Managing Editor of Supercycle Magazine. In her 37 years she put in over 750,000 miles on various scoots. Though she could ride across the country for a free lobster dinner, she was never content with the roads she was on, writing "I'm always in search of a better one." Marla was killed while riding scenic Route 6 in Connecticut on her way from Massachusetts to Cleveland for the Boozefighters Convention. Basically, the road zigged and Marla zagged...directly into the path of an oncoming 18 wheeler. Skooter lived thanks to the heroic efforts of good samaritan Jerry Stratton who essentially stole her away from the accident and delivered her to a local vet. Skooter lived out the rest of her life in California with Marla's good friend Linda Jo Goldstein. Marla was, apparently, looking back at Skooter when the accident happened. Maybe when you ride 100,000 miles a year, year after year, you just get a bit too laid back, too free of fear, too comfortable. In reality, her bike was the only home she ever had. Most accidents happen at home.

Thanks for the oversight on Marla, Redrigid. I had never heard of her. 95' I was preoccupied with the 1%, now I just want the slow scenic road too.

I met Rip only once. but will remember the night forever.

I was sitting at home watching the tube. A bro called me and said "Hey guess what? RIPS in town. Get on your bike and get downhere."

That was in Corpus Christi Texas in I think 1985 or 6.

Of course I got off the couch and went so did several hundred of my closest friends. The word got out fast that he was in town and everyone wanted to meet him.

We closed the bar. What a hoot we had that night.

He put a good piece in ER about the party.

I damn near dumped my bike getting home, riding stupid at 3am.

Even though I only met him once and I'm sure he would never remember me when he passed it felt like I'd lost a friend.
I'm sure a lot of people felt that way about him.
