Maxum build

Hey I just found this site and was blown away... I am starting a build on a Maxum 750 and thought I was in the right place to show it off and ask a few questions. I am not new to choppers but this will be my first metric build as my wallet has shrunk... I have a few questions before I cut this thing completely apart and hopefully you guys can help out... First off it is a shaft drive, can I expose the shaft and ditch the tube that is around it? If not is the tube structural, can I use it as the lower tube for the rigid tail? 2nd, it has duel disk brakes in the front, can I remove one of the to clean up the wheel area some? And 3rd, the stock frame tubing is 1" except for the back bone which is 1.25'', is using 1" x .120 DOM strong enough to fab a hard tail for it?

Any help would be great and thanks in advance. I will post a pic of how it sits now and do up dates as I go. Looking to make a hardtail bar hopper for around town and hopefully show off some of my metal working and welding skills along with meet new people and learn some cool shit along the way..

PS how the hell do you put pics on here???

Not that it seems many people here care but I ordered my tubing to start fabing up the new hard tail for this build. I think I can expose the drive shaft so I can lose that ugly and bulky tube. I will post some pics soon. Should be getting my tubing in a few days. For now I may work on making axle plates and maybe start to clean up the front end...

Just got a text from the wife and my tubing arrived! Cant believe it, I ordered it yesterday morning and got it at 2 pm today and that was regular ground shipping... Gonna get into cutting and making the new hard tail tonight. Will post some pics soon to see if I can drum up some interest in this...

I got a question and some help here would be awesome. I can't find a way to bend this DOM tubing. Anyone ever cut miters and welded it together? Wondering if I cut the tube at the proper angle and beveled the ends and then TIG welded them, would that be strong enough?

Well I was told that mitering the tubes is a bad idea. So the search is on for a tubing bender or a shop to bend the tube for me... Not really sure how to figure out the bends and tell them to the shop though, I mean if I need something tweeked a little during the mock up this can turn into a real pain in the ass! Looks like this is gonna suck, I really thought I could bend this stuff...

Look for Fab Kevin on here, he may help, and he also sells hardtail kits. He can probably point you in the right direction.

I cant find anybody by that name on here but I did find a web site that I think may be him... I got my hands on a cheap ass bender, only prob is its a pipe bender! I reworked the dies and made my DOM fit somewhat better. I did a test bend and it went ok. It did not kink the tube but did leave the outside and inside of the bend a little flattened out. Not sure if this will affect the strength of the tube or just the appearance. Any ideas on that??? There used to be a chassis fab shop near me that could bend tube but they closed up shop so I am really running out of options... If its just a matter of looks that the tube has a flat spot I really dont care but I dont want to put it together and have it be a problem later...
