A gold wing chopper???
So I built a CB500 twin motor that I was going to build another chop out of. Well this dude wants it and is willing to trade me an 81 Goldwing straight across for the motor. He says the "igniters are burned out and it wont get spark". It looks like he made a hacksaw/bobber out of it and I am willing to bet he messed up the ignition in the process. No problem for me, I have an extensive collection of honda CDI ignitions. Not to mention that I foresee some green in my pocket when he builds it and needs some fabrication done.
Anyway, I am thinking about a full blown GL1100 chopper now. I have seen some hack job Goldwings but nothing special. I know the power plants are sound, millions of old people can't be wrong. This also seems like a good challenge for me to change things up. I am still riding O'l Stretch so I am not in a real hurry anyway. Does anybody have any pics of well done Goldwing choppers you could throw up here???? I found this one surfing the web. This one doesn't look to bad at all, though he needed a few more degrees of rake or a shorter front end to level out the lower rails IMO. NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! http://www.gwcb.de/assets/images/bry...g_chopper4.jpg NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! NOT MINE!!! |
That sounds pretty interesting, I've never heard of GW chop before.

I think I might pull this trade on Friday and drag this junk pile home. And I know a goldwing can pull some serious highway miles. I figure the reason it hasn't been done much is that your average goldwing guy is about as far opposite as you can get from your average chopper guy (I never much liked them goldwing guys:LOL:). I could probably make enough on the leftover crap to get it together for nothing. |
why not
they have been droping vw 4's and 6's into bikes not trikes since as far back as the late 60's if i remember right. wish i could find a pic of one i think called 6pax or something like that the style it still works today. |
did some digging and found some info on six pack a corvair powered motorcycle by norm grabowski
so hell yes go for it |

Use a 1988 or later GW drive train and you'll have reverse!

Here is a cafe'd GW, not bad. I am not much on cafe bikes but I would take this over a trash wagon.

ANd then Honda has even put out there own stripped down model, the Valkrie. They still look a little weird to me, but again, way better than a trash wagon.

I'm not real keen on fat tires and swingarms, but this looks OK.

So what ever happen to the CB900 you were going to convert to chain drive? Sounds like you really don't want to chop a GW. When I was a much younger man I work at a Honda Shop always though the stripped down Interstates would make a great fat tire bobber, but you said you didn't like fat tires, so why waste time on something you are not really interested in?

I have a few spare CB/CL twin motors, and this dude wants to chop one. And as far as the goldwing, what a challenge that would be. the motor sits low and flat, it would make a nice fatty bobber, but I have some freaky plans in mind for a complete custom frame rather than just doing back half. I want to build another long skinny chopper that is a little more Freeway friendly than the small twin now that I have to lay down some real miles to hit the Smokeout. This is a BMW, but it is as close as I can find to what I am thinking frame wise. I don't like allot things about this bike but the frame geometry looks right. http://www.beemergarage.com/photos/bmwchop.jpg |
Well I drug this ugly fucker home the other day. The dude had already chopped it, sort of. His welding just looks downright scary and it had ugly struts on the back. I even had to hit the ugly yellow paint with a coat of rattle can primer before I brought it home so I wouldn't puke. I have already started chopping it to bits and undoing what was previously done. At least the drive train is sound.
