We trashed the old brake rod, kept the BENT threaded rear end of it and re-straightened. kept the spring and hardware for the rear. used a heim joint rod end doohickey for the front mount.

slaped it all together and it looked snazy to me!

Cut about an inch of the piece of tubing to be used as an electric box and finished up the edge a little bit. then put it in a press stand and used a porta-power to smoooosh it.

Oh, and I made a cardboard tag mount and tail light mount... the damn top's a little off center but I'll fix it with a hammer

made some tabs, welded them to the cross bar under the seat. made some bungs, welded them to the electric box. done... next we're going to notch the electric box for chain clearance, and make a piece of teflon to protect the paint from chain slap...

going to notch the tank somewhere around here-ish...

Tag bracket, old exhaust pipe on the left, new pipe on the right

New pipe after we threw it in the lathe and turned it down NICE and FLAT on the ends...

1/8" backing plate with the 1/4" plate sitting on it (1/4" piece to hold threads better)

All welded up

Backing plate all welded on, center hole is for wires to go through, two side holes are for 1/4" bolts to hold it all together

How it all looks fit together

How it should look with a beer can cover

first one on

Next one on

he had a customer's seat stored on my xs when I got in the shop this morning, thought it was funny so I snagged a pic. Jon said "all you need now is a fucking cup holder and a stereo!" HAHAHAH

This is where it sits at the moment. Had a baby boy in August, elbow surgery in Feb, now wrist surgery this week. Hopefully soon I'll be back to work on this thing...

YES I realize the title is spelled incorrectly. Should be called "the Flange Beater"

Haven't been on the forum for a long while, so I figured I'd at least finish this thread off. Ended up trading the chop for a bitchin' 70's survivor van a few years back. Sold the van to a fellow in KY for a bunch of cash. I miss the bike, but honestly I miss the time spent watching Brad work in the shop more than the bike.

Been riding a 96 Springer since around 2013. Bought a 2015 KLR 650 back in the spring and have been enjoying the hell out of that as well. Got another van too. I'm planning on chopping the 96 Springer eventually (in the middle of a never ending house renovation at the moment), and I'll start a thread on that when I get to it.
