hardtail using stock swingarm
I see guys using struts to hardtail their bikes and I was wondering if I could just cut off the BS and run tubing from the backbone to the rear shock mounts using the stock swingarm. The frame is in good solid shape. This is a 79 gs750 Suzuki. I have acquired an air ride springer seat for it. Here is a picture of the frame. ANother picture of what I'm talking about.

Plenty of people have done it and you might get many to support the idea.
It's dumb and a poor potentially dangerous engineering solution to something that should be done correctly.
The upper rear rails will flex because the swingarm is still like a hinge at the pivot point. At some point those upper tubes will crack, with or without gussets.

You can and as long as you weld it correctly there should be no problem.
