Thumbs up Birch Run Bike Show

I was talking with Mike Shockley the other day. Mike's family has put on the show at Birch Run for several years. It was in Birch Run that I first sat down with OCC to talk about doing some things with them. At the time,Mike's dad was the show promoter. He passed away that year. Then his wife took it over for a few years and now Mike is the promoter. This is coming this month and I wanted to remind everyone hat it is the 3rd weekend of January 2009. If you have any kind of bike that you would like to show, now ids the time to get online and get signed up to show it off. The entry is FREE and your entry comes with a free weekend pass. They have something like $5000 in cash prizes and trophies. I am donating several hundred dollars in parts to be given away as well. I am not sure who else is doing this. It is always a good time with a good group of people. They do serve beer inside as well as food. It comes at the right time of year as it always gets everybody excited about the coming spring and riding. It is also far enough away that you still have time to work on your bike or have someone do some work to it.
Here is the link http://www.shockleyproductions.com/michigan/motorcycle/
They have 30 different classes of judging,so there is something for everyone!
This is the 21st year for this show and they really need your support. If you are a vender-they still have some vendor spots. What they really need are more bikes. Here is their MySpace page as well
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndID=415061259

Support you local bike shop,Support your local bike show! Everyone who works at putting these shows together work very hard at making it a good time for all involved.

Yea - I e-mailed him and asked him why no Twin Cam categories like the evos, shovels etc.. He forwarded the email on to someone else. No answer. First place is only $50 and a trophy for each category... OOOOOOHH. WTF!!!

maybe I missed something on the entry form but, payout is only 750.00 not 5000.00 like you posted. unless I am missing something.

I added up the same thing. I am calling him tomorrow and find out for sure what the payout is. Like,is it just cash and/or other prizes? The other thing which I hadn't noticed was about the Twin Cam question. very good point. I will post more info as I get it and i will try to get in it the next few days so that if you guys end up wanting to go,you will have time to make plans. Mike asked me to help get more entries and I didn't look at the web site. He needs to spell it all out so that there are no question as to what is taking place. I thought there would be more on the web site. I know that i have been a vendor there the last 3 or 4 years and it has always been a good time over the weekend. There is usually a party somewhere on Saturday night-sometimes I go,sometimes i don't. It kinda makes Sunday a little harder to bear.
Like I said,I will call Mike tomorrow and find out about the payout and TC classes.

His web site kinda sucks. There is very little on the show and no pictures frm past shows...WTF? Is there another site to promote the show so people can actually see what they are gonna get for their $14?

I went last year. It was o.k.
I wasnt' on planning to enter but it did bum me out that no TC classes. (I wanted to see ideas and such!) and they are right though.. the web site does SUCK!! No wonder he is finding hard time getting entries.
When I emailed him, last week, he couldn't answer my question. Even if they did have a TC class, I wouldn't have any time making arrangements to get the bike up there. Oh well, if I do go at least I can check out some cool looking bikes

I know that he has someone else st up the classes for judging bikes. I can't remember who it is that he has do the bike show. It was a little slow last year and that is why I am trying to get more people to go this year. We don't have that many bike shows in Michigan. That is why it is important that we try to support those that we do have. There are only 2 good sized ones in the winter in Michigan not including the expo at the Novi center. The one at the Novi Center is not really a custom bike show. The other one is in Grand Rapids in Feb.I have not gotten any info on the one in Grand Rapids so I don't know if they are even having one this year. I need to do some searching to see if that one is going to happen this year.

Some more good points. It would be better if he had pics from previous shows. I know they used to have that as well as what vendors were going to be there. When all you have is a web site for someone to look at and use as to whether or not they are going to the show, then it would be helpful to have as much info as possible on the site. Like I said,I am not involved other than I am going with bikes and parts, ect,I am going to let him know the comments that have been said here good and bad.

Thumbs up web site from 2007

Here is the 2007 web site for this same show-much better than this years. but still the same show other than Arlen Ness not being there. Hickeys Blackmetal Choppers has gone out of business as well as others. I believe it is important for all of us in Michigan to get on board and help otherwise there will be nothing left to go to. There are always a lot of shows in the summer. but just a very few in the winter.

OK,Baker Drivetrain is involved in this show. The deal is that they will be giving away $300 in cash beside the other cash prizes. Baker will pick 13 of the best bikes there.(a Baker's dozen) these bikes will go into a different area to be judged by the crowd. From there, what they are thinking that the top 3 picked by the crowd will win 1st place $1500,2nd $1000 3rd $500 There will be other prizes as far as parts given away as well. These parts prizes are still to be determined. I have heard a new V&H exhaust system,S&S air cleaners, ect.
As far as me or anyone else helping-well,I don't have a problem with that because I feel that the more that we all pull together, the better it will be for everyone. I don't believe that they make a lot of $$$ from these shows as it costs a lot of money to put on.
The classes are not set in stone as well and will depend on what shows up. They have to start somewhere and go from there.

I think some people are missing the point, this is the only Michigan show in the winter. Been going there for a few years now and it's always been fun. Everybody on this forum logs in to talk about bikes, get out from behind the fucking computor , bring your bike to the show and talk in person. Fuck the prizes and the cost of a ticket (you spend more than that at any bike night). Shockley Productions is a mom and pop orginization with out the benefit of a large staff. Their good people so cut em some slack. Enough rant ,all I really want to know is if the sausage guy (Nowickis) is going to be there?
