Exclamation BEWARE of THOMPSON CHOPPERS

They will take your money up front and not Deliver the goods.

Starting Back in July my brother had called around and talked to several frame builders.... For whatever reason he was impressed with the guy at Thompson Choppers in Springfield Missouri. (DO NOT CONFUSE WITH LEROY THOMPSON CHOPPERS) supposedly the guy was very helpful on the phone. So my brother decided to buy a Warlord Roller with a few more parts. The total was close to $5000. (not quite but very close) Everything was ironed out and a shipping date was given. Well the shipping date comes and goes but no parts. After it was a week late my brother called and talked to the guy. He told him that he is looking at the frame and wheels now, he would take some pictures and e-mail them to him. Also told him that he would have his parts within a week........Yeah, well a week comes and goes and no parts. My brother starts trying to contact the shop and they will not take his calls, he calls every day 3 or 4 times each day for a month without an answer. After the parts were 8 weeks late and no contact, won't answer the phone or reply to e-mails my brother finally contacts the credit card company and luckily they reimburse my brother. He is lucky because he did pay with a credit card. The Credit Card company will pursue getting their money back. My brother has only lost time so he is okay. I just want to get the word out because I don't want others to make the same mistake by using these scumbags. If you do make sure you use a Credit Card.

I agree - say no to Thompson Choppers

I have a very similar story with Thompson Choppers (I'm one of the people that reported to the better business bureau). I originally was going to get a frame from another manufacturer but decided to go with Thompson Choppers. I spoke with the owner (Paul) a few times before the transaction and received some CAD drawings of the frame and front-end to my specs. I send the money in January 2008 with a promised delivery date of March 2008. Then.... they pretty much fell off the planet. I left multiple phone messages throughout the months, emails, better business bureau, etc. I even started sending 25 page faxes that just said "call me, call me, call me". I got so frustrated that I started to book a flight to MO to knock on the door and ask what the F$&k was going on. In the end, I finally got my product (about 6 months late). Some of the items I paid for were not done (seat pan hinge mounted, different tires than I asked for, some holes not drilled for the steering stops) but I got the bulk of it. The welds were done well and I'm happy with the frame overall but I'd avoid them if I were you. I purchased a tank as part of my order as well. I'm pretty happy with the overall shape but there needs to be some SERIOUS bodywork done to it before it'll be smooth and pretty. Don't let their nice website and magazine ads fool you - these guys are not good to deal with.

Just for fun, I've attached a pic of the raw frame, forks, tank, and fender. I think it'll be a good looking bike in the end.

That's screwed up. The bad thing is my brother would have waited longer had they just given him a progress report every now and then. Since he has told me about it I have seen in several different threads where they had some crappy welds. I am putting this on every website I can. I wish my brother had let me help him a little more but I was in Iraq at the time. The gold rush is over with. We need to get rid of these crappy shops that put out piss poor work and support the shops who do quality work. I can understand if you can't make a time line for whatever reason but dammit you have to communicate with the customer. Too many people have been robbed by these thieves to let something drag on forever with no communication. It makes people distrust everyone. Now he doesn't want to do business with anyone that he cant readily drive to their shop. Unfortunately, where we live their ain't any real good shops nearby.

Man I hope your not holding your breath. And yours has been going on since Jan. I think If I were you I would call the DA's office in that town and ask what you can do. If you need another voice I'm sure my brother would love to give them a statement and I'll bet his Credit Card company would like a peice of that also. Not speaking for them but I'm sure they didn't enjoy giving up $5000.

Just ran into another snag with the Thompson Choppers frame. The supplied transmission plate is flat?!? I'm not sure what transmission is supposed to fit on it but mine surely won't. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do about it but it doesn't look like a real quick fix.

More Fun

Yet another problem with my Thompson Choppers frame. The rear axle blocks are not welded in straight. There is a 1/2cm difference from front to back. These iceholes need to be run out of business.

A little bit of a bump to this thread to keep the word alive. Still no MSO for my frame and my bike is 75% complete. I have had to begin civil action in attempt to get it. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE!

Well folks - I finally received my MSO. Took over a year and I had to involve the law but I'm finally clear of these guys. The bike is almost complete so I should have a picture of it soon. I had to scrap the tank - the body work would have taken years to clean up.
