First ryde. BUSTED!!!!

Hello All.
Got my bike all done as well as did my friend.
Went to a outdoor concert and bout a mile from it I see the red n blues behind us.
He comes up and informs us that in Ohio our handlebars are illegal.
He says they cant b more than like 15.5 inches above the seat. Mine are 15 + the seat drop so Id guess 22 inches or so. My buddy has 22 inch apes so his is like 30+.
He was real cool and even thought our bikes were neat, but the bars gotta be lower.
Im gonna try n shorten mine up but my buddy said he will suck it up and run em.
Oh well, fun nite besides. Rod

Argh! I ride in Cincy area all the time, never been pulled over for the high bars. I have 16", on 2" risers, and the seat is way lower than the triple trees. In fact, 15" over the seat would ALMOST make the bars on my STOCK dresser illegal. crazy. Hope ya got away with a warning.

I think a good number of states have some regulations like that regarding bar height over the seat, etc. How often they get enforced, be it at a safety inspection, or by the police is another matter. You didn't get lucky for sure. First time out!

Fight it!!!! Did he use a tape measure, plumb bob and a level? If not where is his "proof"? Easy case to beat, they won't fight hard cause it's not worth the time for them. Fight all BS tickets, they will stop writing them if they get called to court over and over again, there superiors will put a stop to it if they got to go to court 15 times in a month for handle bar tickets and other minor infractions.

I believe here in PA the bars cant be higher than your shoulders when sitting on the bike. Also that would probably been written up as an equipment violation (like a burnt tailight buld) no fine, they would need to be removed and a inspection mechanic would need to sign off that they were changed then you send a card back in to the PD.

I guess they don't have that law here in FL. I once saw a used Victory sitting in front of a dealer with some of the highest apes I've ever seen.

There's your answer, move to FL.

Been pulled over in Fl for my apes, paid on the spot (assholes), told him I wasn'st gonna lower them, in place with pins to keep from moving, matter fact every time I go to Fl I get pulled over, also in wy in Crook county, we were looking for crook county, named after great great grand dad, when my buddy took my picture of getting my warning the door said crook county, and last in the Black hills, 4 times, 1 time was pulled over by FBI,ATF,US Marshall and the State police wanted to know if I had any weapons, took me to the black suv and ran me, didn't find anything but me me pay again on the spot for apes, no check of insurance on any time been pulled over out of texas, think they are just looking for wants and warrants, and yes my hands are about 5inches over my shoulders.

New York is hands cannot be above shoulders, if you can see armpit hair no go. That 15 inch rule is left over from 1967. There is no sense to it no one know how to measure it .

I was watching one of the Sturgis shows on TV once and the cops had been giving tickets for bar height. It showed one dude who had loosened his bar clamps to wear he could pull the bars down to shoulder height when he saw the cops, then push them back up once the coast was clear... Might be a little dangerous though.

I'd rather pay a ticket then have my bars come off doing down the road. Look Ma, no hands...
