its off my fox news home page. i/we used to hunt feral hogs when i lived in ga, bait the ground and climb a tree and use a pistol, but i never saw one over 200 lbs or so.

now i know why we did it from trees.

Wild boars are about the fucking meanest things I've ever come across. When they see you they either: A)freeze montionless to determine whether or not you've seen them B) charge your ass and try to gore you to death with their "tusks" C) run like hell away from you... and these are usually the juveniles. Most of the time they freeze until you make eye contact and then rush you. Any game farms make you sign waivers, and usually go out with you the first time to ensure you don't "freeze up" when the moment of truth arrives.

A high powered rifle at or near elephant-gun caliber is pretty much the only thing capable of taking these things in one shot. And they still usually run off for a good distance if it was a good shot.

A few years ago some law enforcement boys went out and emptied two clips from full-auto MP5's into one. It was then finished with a high powered rifle immediately because the Mickey-Mouse 9mm did pretty much nothing.

An animal that size, or even 1/2 its size is nothing to fool with.

I'd guess the family all hunted in a group, with a number of guns on the animal in case it approached harming one of the hunters.

Some cool combination rifles/shotguns for these types of animals:

http://www.blaser.de/Calibers-D-99-Duo.354.0.html?&L=1

Shotgun combined with large caliber rifle. Can come in handy for this kind of game.

Doing that size animal in with a revolver says one thing in my book: BIG FAT BALLS OF STEEL

Brad, you must have been hunting different wild bore then those found down in south GA. I have several of my buddies down that way that go boar hunting, but it's just for the sport of it. And trust me if there was any good meat on those animals my redneck buddies would have found a way to make that meat good for eating. But they've always told me that nothing good in terms of decent meat comes from those boars. It's more of the excitement of the hunt. Because it truly excitement according to some of the stories I've heard.
