SRV's versions of Jimi's songs are usually more technically correct/accurate, cleaner, etc. Stevie was just unbelieveable and there's no telling where his playing would have taken him or us--his fans and listeners--had he not lost his life in that crash. He is by far my favorite guitarist, though there are so many, many others who are nothing short of fantastic. It usually comes down to style and his style is very appealing.
The other thing of interest about Hendrix concerns his old stuff from groups he played guitar for before getting his own Experience gig. They've taken many of those old cuts and remixed them only to find that he was playing the same style/riffs/rhythms, etc back then, but that his guitar was kept in the background of the mix. When they remixed them with his guitar up front and out there as we hear in his power trio work, those songs sound more like Jimi Hendrix songs than that of the group he was playing in.
Looking back, I only wish I had seen Stevie in person. I remember reading one article about how his amp once started smoking probably due to the incredible input signal he'd generate from his playing style and the thick strings he used. He's one of those guys who really played his heart out. Like all the greats, he and his guitar became one.

Yes. I've got that video and the Live From Austin compilation. And you're right. He's able to come up with tone I'd die for! On Leave My Girl Alone from the Austin video, he rips up some blistering riffs in the solo in such a rapid flurry of notes and still maintaining great punch.
Of course, I always love his versions of Texas Flood. He is so great with slow blues.
I wonder if the Live at Montreax DVD is worth it.

Mahogany Rush. I remembered the name, but I don't ever remember listening to them. That's a great link and he's got a sweet sound. He's still around and touring.

Pretty interesting stuff at that website.
I'll have to check into this music. Don't know how I missed him through those years.
