How about an extra spark plug, coil, and ignition? Also fuses if you have them instead of circuit breakers.

might take a pair of plugs too, probably not the coil, and if ignition goes, i'm screwed. breakers are self-setting so should be good there.

didn't have the bags on for the test drive TX51, but they're done and ready! not too bad i guess for a first stab at leather work.

i do, but that one's painted to match the s1000rr and just use it for that bike. generally i never wear one on the chopper. for this trip Pick had an extra black half shell helmet that i'll wear through LA, MS, AL where it's law, then stow it until the trip back. fcking HATE having to wear one of those things. guess i'm not old enough to make my own decisions.

you're better prepared than i ever was. if you break down someone will stop and help you. I always carry a load of tools in my van when traveling just in case some poor bastard is broke down on the road. to bad you couldn't find someone to drive a chase vehicle.

the old man and i both always had one saddlebag of our shovelheads for tools, and one for a few clothes if needed, or groceries when it was the only vehicle i had. i remember borrowing his sporty and the front pipe came loose. used the road map in his bag for a hotpad to grab it so i could reattach the pipe until i got to work.

hope like hell for no breakdowns, even have a tire repair kit as those have saved me before, but at least i'm prepared for basics like oil line fixes, wiring fixes, chain adjustment, etc. good chance i won't use more than a couple of all those tools, but if i need them, i'll be glad i had 'em.

definitely in countdown mode. just washed it, letting it cool, go polish it this afternoon, load all the bags, put on the tender, and have it read to go Tue night!

i took a trip to canada once and packed every tool imaginable. ended up burning a wheel bearing out because of the extra weight.

fcking hilarious! doubt it was at the time, but ironic. that's like going home empty handed because no girl wanted to go home with the guy carrying a 12 pack of trojans around in the bar with him!

much appreciated amigo. hope it doesn't come to that, but good to know a plan B. in IA we'd just walk to the nearest farmhouse, they always had plenty of tools.

grenaded a piston outside a little town one night coming home from the bars at 2 am full throttle. remembered i had a distant cousin that lived there, so pushed it to his place (hernia) and crashed on the floor til morning. simpler times...

been pretending everyone else on the road is out to kill me for over 20 years, don't plan on stopping that now.

like i always said, "The key to staying alive on a bike is to stay alive on a bike long enough to get the experience necessary to stay alive on a bike."
