Anyone familiar with Yamaha Viragos?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 81 Virago in pretty good shape and I am thinking of getting it to turn into a bobber. I've seen some nice looking ones online and they sound pretty damn good. It's a shaft drive bike, any positives or negatives, just looking for anyone with some feedback on these bikes. Thanks

Shoot an email my buddy Craig Hageman of Docs Chops Docs Chops — He's a builder on the discovery (Velocity Channel) show Cafe Racer. He knows these bikes better than anyone. : )

The only bad things about them are the starter.(Shim/spring kits available on E-bay.And the petcocks.Usually dried up from sitting and the vacuum lines cracking.Easy to rebuild.
Here's an '82 750 I did a few years ago.

And an '85 1000 I'm doing now.
