Ultima 2" Primary - Engine Pulley Nut

Guys - been trying to search, but getting some DB errors and won't allow me to search for the past 2 hours. Need to open new thread as I am stuck!

The brass nut that came with the Ultima 2” Belt Drive for the Engine Pulley\Crank Shaft is a little tight when tightening by hand.

Basically it catches the first 3-4 threads with ease, but then become very hard to tighten with my hand.

Crank Shafts threads are fine as when I flip the nut the other way around (hex facing in and rounded end out) the nut holds the threads no probs and I can tighten by hand no probs.

Is this nut a tapered nut so that it holds tight first time? Or is my nut warped\screwed?

Dont want to tighten as I don’t want to strip any threads on the crank shaft.

Your thoughts?

For your reference I am talking about Part# 58-723 HTNUT 0.8750-14-D-S on the assembly diagram located here www.ultimaproducts.com/2InchBeltDrive.pdf

Really need some advise..

Thanks guys!!

if the nut is brass you're not going to hurt the crank threads but i can't understand how it threads one way but not the other unless the nut threads are bad. sometimes nuts come with a dry thread locker on the first threads, is that the case? that would make the nut thread hard.

The nut isn't brass its that gold coated grade 8.. not sure if you have a tap that big so I suggest running it to a machine shop and ask them to do it for you.. Ultima has a tech line if you think the nut is supposed to be that way, on my 3" drive it spun on just fine hex side out. Sure they would replace it to if you asked..

All sorted!!

Tapped threads on the nut (almost like a "break in") and all is good..
