Made a seatpan using fiberglass. I'm no expert with fiberglass but the stuff is very forgiving. This took much longer than I expected. Probably invested > 12 hours into the seatpan.
Masked with painters tape and then with aluminum tape. Seems like overkill but all the web sites I looked at do it.
All layers complete
Trimmed to size and shape. Molded a pillion pad pan at the same time.
Edge banding applied and a gazillion 3/16 holes drilled for riveting the leather upper.
I put all the detail steps and more images in the blog at Midnight Customs

This is what the finished seat looked like
Didn't like it at all. Ripped it apart, remolded the nose to be flat against the tank instead if the point. Used neoprene rubber which was shaped with an angle grinder and 50 grit disk followed by hand sanding with 120 grit.

Also worked on the pillion pad. Not sure about how effective the suction cup approach is to holding the seat on but seems to be pretty common.
This is what the seats look like in raw neoprene.
Still not 100% happy but it will have to do for now.
Been going back and forth about turn signals. Not required in North Carolina but decided to add them anyway. The tail light is from a license plate holder that I disassembled and then made a sheet metal protrusion to mount it on the rear fender. I actually made the tail light mount last year.... I'm way behind on this log....

When its done we need to go on a few rides seeing how you are about 45 mins away from me. my builder has to put a bigger starters on mine. I was going to go with the 113 Ultima that you are running except the place I ordered it from had it on back order and they upgraded me to the 124 for free. I was running a 1.5KW starter but it just isnt enough for the 124. I think they are going to upgrade to a 1.75KW or a 2KW one. I am thinking a 2KW just to be on the safe side but we shall see.

I look forward to a ride. We may need a following truck packed with tools for my bike
I work on the bike every weekend but progress is slow. I hoped to be running by January but now I'm looking at May. The paint and bodywork has been a real bear. I lost count of the hours just spent on the tins but it was easily north of 40.
From the little I know, a 2kW starter will require a bigger battery for your bike as well.

Ah ok... talked to the builder today and they are going with a bigger starter with a direct push button start on it vs the key start so it uses less battery and all the power is at the starter. I hope this works out better than the key start. These guys have been building mine since last May so its almost been a year. I would love to do most of the work myself but I dont have the type of tools.

Been working away at the paint and stuff for way to long. Integrated the Dakota gauge cup into the handlebars. The whole sorry saga is in the blog
I ended up having to do the job twice because the original bars were off center and had to be replaced.
Midnight Customs: Part 20 - Handlebar mods for Dakota Gauge Cup
I am finally getting to the point where assembly is starting to look like a reality, but every time I think that, each little job takes longer than I expect.....

Did all the body prep and filler. Used Evergold Rage Pro body filler. Never used body filler before so the choice was arbitrary. Seems to work ok
The tank was hell. Multiple re-applications of bodyfiller and sanding. The tank had a ridge down the center where it was welded with a depression on either side. Getting it all smooth and continuous was tough.
Set up a paint booth in the garage using an 8x8 pop-up tent covered in plastic with a fan at one side and a filter at the other. Air quality wasn't the greatest and I was a little concerned about vapor build up causing an explosion but fortunately that didn't happen.
After primer with a cheap harbor freight spray gun
Applied a single stage urethane top coat using the same HF spray gun. Had multiple failures and redos along the way. This was my first time painting with a spray gun. Not sure it is something I want to do again. Very time consuming and takes a lot of practice. I went through a gallon of paint... End result looks ok.
Updated the blog with a bunch more detail information:
Midnight Customs: Part 21 - Bodywork and Paint
Getting closer to final assembly I guess

Hi not sure if you worked out the spacer but I am fairly sure it goes on the gearbos output shaft to space up to the clutch basket bearing. Thanks

Thanks, I found out that with an open belt primary, the spacer isn't needed.
