got new cases already need help
just got my new ultima 80 cases.kinda misunderstood what was included. apperentely i need to purchase the bearing for the pinion shaft side of the cases. When i look at the ultima diagrams. for the harley 80 inch it shows different color coded bearings. when you jump to the ultima 100 inch it shows a specific bearing but says it is for big bore cases. i assume from what i have read. the ultima 80 inch uses harley components. how do i know wich color to buy. if i am being a total retard please let be know , but give me any answers you can. by the way i do have a manual, but it's not that detailed.

You have to get the pinion shaft race miked and the case pinion race is standard on ultima cases (can't remember what it is off-hand) In your manual you will find a list of the different colors and their min max tolerances. Subtract the pinion diameter from the case race diameter and divide that by 2. Go to the color list in the manual and pick the color that your measurement falls into. BTW, there are 2 color codes, 1 for early and 1 for late evo's. If this sounds a bit to much, take the wheels to a parts outlet and tell them you have new ultima cases and they should be able to mike it for you and set you up with the right bearing. you need a lock ring also which doesn't usually come with the bearing.

Not sure what you're doing but if you're using a set of used wheels it would be worth having them put in a truing stand just to make sure they're true. It would be a real bummer to tear all that shit up if the wheels aren't right. Keep in touch here on the board and ppl will help you.

You will most likely also need to line lap the cases. Hopefully the guy at the shop you are going to for the bearings can help you out. What service manual do you have? An HD manual should have detailed descriptions of everything and is a must for building an engine

got a manual on cg off ebay. Justn says harley repair manual on it. when you put it in it is scanned copy of a 84 to 99 softail manual. Have another coming that is a video dvd of someone doing the work a showing all the special tools with a few tricks of the trade thrown in. Havn't got to the shop yet. will probably be a slow process any way as i get money to get a piece here and there. as i stated in another thread im waiting on some things from friends too. i bought the cases because i had ordered a frame from jireh, and as everyone knows everything there is on back order. wanted to get rid of the money before it dissapeared. got the complete indian crsnk assemly off ebay for 102 bucks. Had that into the shop the other day before the cases came to have him look at the rod end play, which he said was fine. he didnt say any thing a bout checking them for true , but he was pretty busy, and you would swear they are new.The wheels came in a s &s box that states 1.2499 pinion the ultima cases are supossed to be 1.751. the formula you guys gave comes out to .2505705 with those numbers. I cant find those codes in my manual. Did find one from s&s online . have a couple of people asking people they know for the bearig tool for the other side. Any idea what the shop my charge to press them in. Did ya catch how cheap i am yet? LOL
