and then we get into the lawyeristic semantic debate of if a plate can rotate sideways, is it really flipping up? and technically, ANY plate is adjustable by moving screws.

I remember reading the law was really created for the sportbikes where the plate does flip so that it is unreadable.

That's what I run.... if you decide to use this one get two plate supports and sandwich the stock one with the two and drill the mount holes and re-tap to the nest size up.... all in all it is OK after those mods...

All of the above were also true in FL until this past October. Sport bikes: killing bystanders with wheelies-gone-bad, running at 170 mph away from cops and bending their tags into a curved inter rear fender liner or setup on a spring-loaded hide-on-command "007" set-up has changed all that!

I had a deputy in the store today and I asked him about this. We dug out the statute for him and after he carefully read it to me we determined the $1000 fine is for the moving violation of exhibition of speed or wheelies. He said the plate deal is a non moving violation and should be no points involved with a max fine of under $100. He also said any competant judge would throw out the fine if your tage was visable and well lite.

I know that no consulation if you get pulled over for the tag and you have had a few brews. I might be hard to try to tell the officer that misread the law he is wrong

What about if I'm from another state. I can't fight the fine. Some states I have to show up in court to pay the fine. I'm better changing the plate position and not ending with a DUI..

Pa Title 75 section 1332 governs the display of registration plate. This section generally reffers to obstructed plates, however, one must refer to the Pa inspection code for placement. The inspection code state the registration must be horiontal, along with being mounted center rear. The fine for this violation is 25.00 but once you include all of the attached fees, the total fine is 108.50.

As other states move toward horizontal laws, I'm sure Pa will start to enforce this.

I don't ride my bike under the influence of anything but I don't want to give PoPo any reason for fucking with me either. I ride my bike to get away from all the daily bullshit and I don't invite any extra bullshit voluntarily so it looks like I will be turning my tag mount into a fucking eyesore.

This is part of the new FL law:

HB 137, Operating a Motor Vehicle

• Provides violations of s. 316.2085(2) and (3), F.S., regarding motorcycle operation, and violations of the speeding laws in ss. 316.183(2), 316.187, and 316.189, F.S., in excess of 50 miles per hour over the speed limit, are moving violations punishable as provided in ch. 318, F.S.

• Includes the requirement that a person riding a motorcycle or moped must have both wheels on the ground at all times; however, an exception is added to provide it is not a violation if the wheels of the motorcycle or moped lose contact with the ground briefly due to the condition of the road surface or other circumstances beyond the control of the operator.

• Requires the license tag of a motorcycle or moped be permanently affixed horizontally to the ground and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. 213

• Provides "tiered" penalties for violations of the newly created s. 316.1926, F.S.

John, the way I read it (FS 316.1926) the new law makes the plate violation a moving violation and subject to the $1,000 fine.

"316.1926 Additional offenses.--
(1) A person who violates the provisions of s. 316.2085(2)
19 or (3) shall be cited for a moving violation, punishable as
20 provided in chapter 318."

I know that here in VA we also have the horizontal plate law but I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for having a verticle mounted plate.
