My $850 79 Ironhead build
I found this 79 on Craigslist and drove 6 hours round trip to get it.
The guy wanted a grand, but when I saw it in person I was able to talk him down.
The bike was buried in his mom's garage and I mean buried! LOL
I plan on cleaning the dirt off, tearing it down to replace some stuff, and doing a simple wiring job.
I got a tote of parts but not enough to finish it out so I'm shopping.
I'm planning on keeping it swing armed and just getting it dependable to ride.
I'll be posting pictures as I go thru it and asking a lot of questions as I go.

I broke out the battery tender last night and went thru some of the wiring to find which cut wire would let me turn the motor over. I was just wanting to get some oil thru it and keep it lubed.
The PO went wild with sidecutters and the wiring is a mess! I was able to find the wires I wanted and got the motor to crank a little but the battery was too far gone to do much.
I'll be posting up some pics as soon as my camera batteries charge!

I pulled the tank off, easy since it wasn't bolted down, and this is what the wiring looks like! LOL
I'm planning on running the minimum wiring so not a problem, I hope!
I also have to get an upper motor mount and get the motor stabilized so I don't screw it up before I get started.

The bike came with an S&S Super B which I'll put a kit in and sometime down the road replace the a/c cover, but first things first.
I'm going to run an 81-82 sprocket cover which puts the m/c on the low side, allowing me more choices on exhaust pipes, plus it cleans up the brake linkage!
The chain is trash so it'll go and I'll have to check the gears.
The whole time I'm doing this I plan on doing a lot of cleaning and polishing because this thing is nasty!

Dumbass me, I'm thinking I don't have an upper motor mount like the one on my EVO based rigid!
DOH..........okay, I find out theres one on the front jug to the frame and one on the rear jug to the frame and the one in the middle ties the jugs together!
So much to learn! LOL

That's the plan! I'd like to use the short FXR style wires and get the coil out in as much air as it can get. My current center mount has a hole for the switch but I'm wanting the coil out there also.

Those part #'s I gave you is the ticket then. They also have the switch for 15.00 I think it was if you need it. Its just a universal key switch, can find it anywhere and I have 1 if u need it Dash. The mnt for switch on those 2 mtr mnts is on the top, smaller switch than what is on your build right now.

Thanx, foggdog! Yeah, I've gotta order those mounts and switch.
I'm wanting to skinny down the wiring harness so I don't have a lot of bulk all over the bike.
Just hi/lo headlight, tail/brake light, charging, kill switch, and keyed start switch.
I think that should put me where I want to be!
