Belt to chain ?

As i'm switching my belt over to a chain on my Sporty, i noticed that when put the sprocket back on the original Lockplate doesn't line up with the holes. Do you need a lockplate on? I do notice that since the kit came with a new seal that the sproket sits out father so that when you put the nut back on, the nut rests tight to the sproket.

it's been a few years since i changed my sportie from a belt to chain (after belt snapped and left me stranded). I would highly recommend a lockplate, even if not the original. You don't want that thing coming loose. Meganut is what i used on most of my chopper builds. can get them from Jims. i know they fit the pbi sprockets.

i don't remember any issue with the seal, but it seems like i did install a different spacer behind the sprocket. Take that back, the first seal i installed leaked because the spring in the back came off the rubber during install, so watch that. have you aligned your front and rear sprockets yet? make dang sure they're right on so you don't add undue stress to your chain from misalignment.

I also had to trim the sprocket cover because my bike was so low it was hitting it. i just chopper a little off the top for clearance.

Monstar, you are correct you need to use the new seal to properly space the sprocket, that is the correct way to do it. There are some guys who don't change the seal and make a funky home made spacer to sit in between. I had to go out and order the seal since I purchased the components seperately instead of in a kit. Since the seal came with your kit, everything should bolt up nice.

Regarding the lock plate, ditch it...it doesn't fit (as you already figured out) Go to your local hardware supplier (I went to a place called king bolt) and get yourself a "socket head cap screw" It should be a 3/16" -24 but I don't remember the length. You should be able to get at least one of these screws into the sprocket itself. Just locktite it in and that will hold it in an emergency.

This is the pic I took of the sprocket to take with me to the hardware store so obviously there's no bolt in there. I used blue locktite and it's held up fine for the last couple hundred miles so far.

i always used spacers on the rear when i built bikes and left the front just the sprocket. When i converted my sportie with stock wheels, etc. i was able to order the front with the right offset and the rear and they lined up gnat's a$$.

big washes will probably work fine as long as it's solid.
