Proud owner of my new HD Special Tool

Actually, it's about a 7$ allen wrench. But after fightin' & fussin' trying to make one for a couple of weeks (in all my spare time), I buckled and bought the right one.

OK, so I guess I'm not such a great fabricator

Here is my 2 dollar tool best effort next to My 25 dolla HD Special tool 10.

It was still a tight fit.

I still had to remove a bunch of other stuff to be able to get to it.

It's turning!

Makes the 25bux almost seem worth it for the allen wrench once I was able to start turning the bolt.

Slowly but surely

It was coming, yet still not quite clearing the manifold.

Cool I guess I got enough light to work by now.

A significant challenge overcome at last. Who'd a thunk an intake would give such trouble? I bought a new jack (shown) to assist with pullin' the motor. I think I'm getting close to dropping the motor at last. So that's all the pics on this round. More to come as I progress. I hope the obstacles I run into (& more importantly their solutions) will help others to shortcut around them in their respective builds. OK, it's beer-thirty - gotta go.

Talking So, good progress was made over the weekend.

My donor debuild is 'bout done. Now the build can finally begin. I still don't have the motor out. I can't seem to get at the two motor mount bolts on the left side (to the swing arm). I'll get them suckers with perserverance.

On this mock, risers are just 1 extra risers stacked together from spares I had layin around. Makes about 3" of rise, I think I'll need about 4".

When I get the motor in there, I can begin measurements. I really think the tank needs a deeper tunnel, if it will still clear my rocker covers.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to have bars made to make it look right. (Just like these twisted Z bars, but the diameter of my downtubes). These are just too skinny for this bike.

And of course once I get my wide glide trees, my 2nd rear wheel will be used for the front.

'K, enuf babblin' - a jpg's worth a 1000 txt's.

Exclamation OK, Spring Break's over, let the flickin' begin.

I recall my statement of 7 September, 2k5, "Just so y'all can flick me shit if I don't make my deadline, I plan to have it done by Spring Break."

OK, I bow my head in shame - let the flickin' begin.

Now that I'm actually beginning the building, I'll push forward my ET to RenoAirRaces/HotAugustNights/StreetVibrations in Reno. That's 5 months until the goal of "riding my registered roadworthy motorcycle".
